GReddy EVO2 + E-Shift Procats = BackFire/AfterFire?
I search of course and found that some guys mainly stock with what just an intake have backfired...
now here is the deal, obviously I am the only type s with procats and evo2
Yesterday I decided to take the long way to work
I live 2 miles away, took the 4.5 mile way
got on the highway swapped over to ss and to hear my baby rawr I gunned it so bad my ass got pushed into my seat, it felt so nice till I went 3rd to 4th and well what do you know "POP", I was like
, $35k car backfiring wth
Ok so I got closer to the job and decided to test out my launching skills, opposite traffic turned yellow, lincoln town car next to me knew it was on and poppin, he burned the hell out from the rear and I exploded off the line and left him in dust, and well what do you know 1st to 2nd "POP"
Any suggestions solutions?
Back from my b18 motor days I know a backfire=backpressure

It doesn't sound good to me, but you need expert advise, not a semi-educated guess.
I thought, though, that a backfire was from excess fuel igniting in the exhaust?

Imma take her for a spin later before work and see if I leave it floored it still afterfires, pretty sure it isn't a backfire because it is coming from the rear of the car, afterfire is what occurs in the mufflers, might be part of the break-in process of the mufflers, might be the break-in process of the procats
I unplugged the battery didnt listen for it since I was just heading to target to pick up a pair of mechanic gloves

I've had the same thing- though not from the exhaust. Mine seems to come from the AEM intake. It doesn't happen all the time, probably 4-5 times in 3 years. And it seems like it's never from a standing start, always when I'm already moving and floor it.

gf extended her vacation so I've moved on to some other mod
Varis Carbon Fiber Intake Duct
it is designed for the 350z, but who is to say I can't put it on the TL
Current CAI is a Fujita one which drops down and rubs behind the fog light, you can tell when there is an aziner with a fujita cai how? well his driver side fog light is probably out
so I solved this problem, I cut the ram about 1.5" above the foglight and cut a hole in my bumper (OMG I KNOW lol) in the big ol holes place I inserted this

Further updates later... to be continued

My car does that pop as well, but its very rare....maybe once or twice every 6 months. This is on stock exhaust w/ AEM intake BTW.

Here’s a reasonable answer to the mystery, from an earlier thread:

'JDM5lugHatch' wrote in a discussion with 'I Hate Cars'...
“This problem is caused by the combination of being an Automatic and Drive By Wire. I could repeat it not stop in my TL when I had it. Full Throttle in i think it was 2nd gear and bump it up to 3rd gear at around 6k staying on the throttle. It would do it damn near every time. The addition of an intake amplifies the sound. It did it to me 1 time when the car was stock with the factory intake. However, like clockwork with the addition of the intake. The throttle plate is slamming closed to prevent a full throttle shift to the next gear (limit power) then it opens really fast so you get this backfire type sound through the intake system.
So all in all it's normal and not causing any problems!”
Also, I concur with his explanation. I can replicate the sound when in SS if I go WOT in 2nd, holding the gear 'till up in the low 6K range, then nudge to 3rd...I get that same 'pop'. However, there is no hesitancy with the engine at all.
