Smile Got the AEM CAI installed today!!

All I can say is WOW! What a nice sound it makes! and the car definately feels more responseful. Got it installed at Lazer Auto on Henri Bourassa for all you Montreal locals. They did a great job and installation took about an hour and a half.

On the way home heading west on the 40 I was following an M3 in the left hand lane. The M3 moved to the middle lane and I floored it to pass and the guy just looked over with a surprised look on his face cause of the sound lol.

Well after months of researching which CAI I would like the most I am definately happy with the AEM. The sound is wicked and the car feels faster. I would recommend this product to anyone.

I got it from Lazer Auto here in Montreal. If you're looking for AEM dealers in your area just go to the AEM website and you can search for dealers within your zip code.

Congrats! I too have been thinking of this very same mod. I think you did it the right way by having a pro install it. I think I'll buy one on line then take it to a shop for the installation. I priced one at a local AEM dealer, and he wanted $299 for just the unit, then add tax on top of that! You can have one delivered to the door for $230, if you buy it on line.

When you are just driving at highway speeds, is the sound inside the car significantly more?
Thanks for any info, and congrats again!

The sound in the car at highway speeds sounds just like stock....until you pass 3k RPM's! Then there's a nice throaty growl.

I asked about hydrolocking at the shop and the mechanic told me that its okay to drive hard even in rain because of the position of the intake but he didnt recommend it. Now about going through deep water....DON'T DO IT! This can result in a very bad situation if you do and could cost you loads of money. So if you see a big puddle up ahead, take a detour to get where you're going!

AcuraTLboi I'm auto. (Wish my dad would have got stick)

So with the AEM, you claim that you smoked an M3 already j/k
Months of research? lol... I could have told you AEM was the best out there for 3G-TL in terms of sound.

I got on AEM's site and searched for dealers......called about 20 and found the best price. I then called the nearest place to me and explained my homework and asked them to match the price from the other AEM dealer and they did. I got mine for $200 + tax

Thanks for the tip! $200 plus tax is a good price. Did you call 20 dealers in a geographical area to you? I actually only have 1 dealer with in 20 miles.

I'll probably take it to the local shop i use, for the install - after i look at the instructions, and decide I don't want to mess the car up myself.

Once you get tired of the initial "HOO AHH!!, depending on your driving you will notice a bit of a gas milage improvement, right now I'm at 28 mpg average in back roads driving, I reached 34 mpg on my way to Chicago averaging 80mph.do the math...

i heard some good & bad thoughts about the water-bypass
does the water-bypass make any difference though?

I'd be interested to see if you added the bypass valve.

I am just south of the border in Vermont and our winters, like your's are pretty bad and the roads are loaded with channels of water when it rains moderately.

Also, do you drive your TL in the winter? I am wondering if there are any concerns in the snow or especially slushy conditions with the air filter out in the open to all of the elements.

I would also like to add a CAI but have held off because of these concerns.

One other question. AEM doesn't list a released model for a 2006 TL. What year did you install one on?

1) There is no bypass valve for the 3G TL.
2) The 04-06 TL's are the same...they all use the same part (21-513).
3) Cheapest I just found on eBay is about $215 shipped. When I was looking for one, I found a seller that had them for $198 shipped (I ended up getting a new one at a much better price in the BM ). Prices seem to have gone up...no one selling for less than $200 + shipping.
4) Hydrolocking is a non-issue, simply drive as you normally would. If your normal driving means you would drive through standing water, you're a moron to start with and deserve to hydrolock your engine. I have driven in torrential downpours with quite a bit of water flowing through the streets without a problem.
5) The sound is awesome.
6) If you do the additional power mod on the last page of the install instructions, the sound is even more intense; however, your A/F ratio goes to $hit and you gulp gas (because you're running rich). The additional power is negligible and I couldn't justify the gas usage just for the extra sound so I undid this mod.
7) Must be how I drive, but my mileage is the same as with the stock air box.
8) Get an intake.

I can confirm that gas mileage in NOT affected in either direction (upward or downward).

I use my car just to drive to work, and no errands around town. I use the wife's car to do errands. So, I drive identically the same after having the CAI versus before the CAI.

My gas mileage has not changed any !!!!

It has been three days so far since I installed my pulley. And, I was really expecting the pulley to increase mileage a little (maybe 1 mpg). The car accelerates sooooo much easier, even under light throttle, with the pulley. But, it looks like the gas mileage is unchanged with the pulley too.

Dumb question, anyone know what these mods do to

the warranty (original and extended).

The CAI sounds like a fun mod to do, not sure how complex the pulley mod is.

I still have lots of warranty left so I am concerned, does anyone know if they will look the other way or ???

Cheers,

With AEM CAI installation is bumper removal required, recommended, or unnessesary?
