Factory LSD?

Ok so I have a simple question. From my understanding, the TL has a helical gear type lsd? Or at least I am under the impression that the Type S's and the 6spd 04-06's do. If this is true then why does my TL torquesteer all over the place?! You can blame it on fwd, but my 300whp supercharged RSX never torquesteered once I put the quaife in so I'm confused

your RSX doesn't have TQ compared to the TL. TL is larger displacement and its a 6cyl. It already have minor tq steer stock. The TL-S have LSD which help with Tq steer but still too much power on a FF is a no no.

the rsx might have had 300whp but it probably had around 200lbs tq...

manual tl has no less than 220lbs tq

best way to get rid of torque steer is drop it and run slightly wider tires and/or lower offset

Let's not forget about gear ratios as well. You can put lot's of torque down with a 4 banger with the right set up.

I dunno I have had issues of tq steer with the car but personally it does not bother me at all honestly. After you are moving the factory LSD works just fine. I have taken the TL in stock trim off to country roads and so on and it handles pretty well. I got the 6mt also.

I Always have an issue when I'm shifting and hit a bump in the road. The whole front pulls on the bump. Very stupid.

I guess I'm just spoiled by light cars. Between the RSX and the S2k I have now the TL isn't really a contendor lol.

Thats a different category of cars right there. What I meant for the FF chassis and being a boat of a sedan it actually handles pretty well when thrown around.

I do not have issues with WOT shifting when hitting bumps...The only issue I have is when I turn and punch it it torque steers bad. Other than that everything else I have no complaint. The bump issue I had went away when I changed out my wheels I dont have that big of an issue with bump steer now compared to the stock wheels.

Just wondering does the steering wheel feel really heavy? I came from a I4 accord to a V6 and the steering wheel feels really heavy.

I think it's a bit heavy but adds to the overall planted feel of the car. I hate over boosted p/s systems - like grandma's caddy where you can spin the wheel lock to lock with your pinky while parked.

Honestly I would like some heavier steering in the TL. I hate the fact that I have a hard time feeling what the front wheels are doing at times.

well, maybe the drop and suspension upgrade added a touch of feel but, my wheel has always been super in touch with the front end.

The Accord's steering is very light. But, a heavier wheel is more desireable, especially when you are into "performance".

Dont get me wrong the steering wheel feels connected to the front wheels but I always feel like I am missing something. I will probably do the Type S rack and pinion swap next time and see if that remedies it. I like the heavy feeling such as my buddies cars...GS300 sport design, BMW M3, etc you get my point though. The TL feels a bit light compared to these. You can still feel the front tires a little bit but I always feel like there is something missing but then I did come from a car with no power steering and drove that just fine.

You guys want over boosted? Drive a buick...I can't stand my dads park avenue ultra. Its nice that its light but when you turn that thing makes you feel like your turning nothing.

It was kinda wierd getting used to the TL-S tight turning but after a while I grew to like it... This is my first car as in I always had trucks and for the overall functionality and styling of the car for price I like it. I drive my moms new Vette and its steering is way too light IMO ... Torque steer is a lil crazy at times especially when I WOT up the inclined onramp that has bumps in it... You probably dont want to be in the lane next to me as I might take you out haha

My '04 6mt has no torquesteer. I know my LSD works because of that and the fact that I can lay down 2 count 'em ....2 big ole lengthy black marks(an easy LSD operation check!). My biggest complaint is the occasional wheel hop!

TL has quite a bit of torquesteer especially on stock tires.

Maybe my terminology is incorrect. I know that my TL doesn't dart unpredictably to one side or the other going in a straight line during a low traction situation. The front end will always drift to the right(on a road that tapers to the shoulder anyway) unlike the other front drivers I've owned that had open differentials. The TL is actually the first front drive I've had with a LSD diff(that's why I got the 6MT)
I am currently running 235/40/18 Nitto nt555

The Tl is noticeable but it is correctible if you anticipate it. Low traction situations I have had the car will drift right but its controllable to where it doesnt matter as much. But to some people that is still considered an annoying torque steer issue. Its common in most FWD vehicles some cars such as the altima keep in a straight line usually.

proper manner to check the LSD is to put the car on a lift put it in first gear (with the car off) and spin one wheel manually. the other wheel should spin the opposite direction

Not exactly!

Not exactly. An open diff. will do the same thing as a gear type using that method. With a clutch type LSD(which is what I've had experience with before the TL) you won't even be able rotate the wheel as the two sides are bound with clutch packs. I originally thought that's how the gear type diff. would behave when I checked mine out 2yrs ago. I thought mine was not working as the two sides would rotate in opposite directions(I was doing a brake job). After a little research, I discovered the gear type operates just like an open diff. when one side is unloaded. I was totally relieved and confirmed it with two black marks!

All of these methods depends on what your checking and how you check it...Usually most factory LSD's are 1 way which means it will only lock under acceleration.
