Question Exhaust thought and idea

Ok so I was reading the thread about the middle muffler and resonator delete but got tired after 12 pages lol. I know now that I want to cut the mid muffler out and put a 2.5" stright pipe in but as far as the resonator goes, what do you all think about replacing it with a Borla? I noticed most of you all are using Dynamaxx or MagnaFlow. I want my TL-S to sound mean and more like an M3 or euro sound. Not like a rice nor G35. What do you all think?

Dude, people can only tell you about their own experiences..not a single person in the world can tell you how something will sound. A simple resonator isn't going to make your car sound like another car. It just doesn't happen, it doesn't work like that.

Why not try it out for yourself...maybe you end up with a unique sound, and not like 24937598359875 TLs out there.

When it comes to exhaust, unless you wanna be like everyone else, and wanna sound like everyone else, there's no silver bullet to this. No one can tell you, but yourself!

I have hacked up my exhaust a million times. I had every sound there is to have, I went through every imperfection till I found what I wanted. It's just the way it is.

Yeah I understand that but I didn't know if someone had already tried Borla and found that it was or wasn't a good sounding resonator. I actually like the sound you get from cutting both out and putting stright pipes in all the way but by doing that I know the HWY cabin sound will be to loud. I really like the RV6 or whatever it's called but can't fork out the $1,300 for the system. I was going to do what I can with the stock set up while im saving.

Thats what Opel was trying to get at.....if some one had already tried it, they would have posted it up already.
instead of wasting your money on these "stage" exhaust, save up for the RV6......

Thats only 10 posts a day. Ive seen some people on other boards with well over 100 posts a day! Some people comment a lot some dont. I spend a solid hour or two a day on AZ and always feel inclined to post but am usually too lazy to do so, lol.

Opel, I agree with 95% of your opinions and things you say. However, I don't agree or actually don't think that statement is relevant.

Sure, there are 78623324897 TLs on this forum that are very similar, some exhaust, kit, lights, wheels etc. BUT, how many people do you see driving around in your town that have the same modded TL? Since having my TL for almost 2 years, I have seen 3 decently modded TLs. I have yet to see one with an ATLP exhaust. Sure, I have met with people to do mods, but I don't count that.

If we all lived in the same town, yes, noone would be unique.

I dont think he was talking about being unique in that sense.

He was trying to motivate the OP in being innovative and unique. There are very few true pioneers with the TL, Opel being one of them. Most of us are followers, and are afraid to try something different. that is why we have a listing of the "stage mods". We simply pick a sound that we would like to achieve and order the same parts.

Innovators like to try different things to achieve the same sound or better.
Opel was simply trying to get the OP to try a Borla resonator and post up the results.
we would then have a new "stage"

I'd say go for and it and let us know. Checkout youtube....below is a clip of someone who ran Flowmaster's in their TL-S....

Does Borla offer resonators? I e-mailed them and all they gave me was a link to oval mufflers.

I hear what you're saying...to me, the fact that there's another TL that looks or sounds like mine, even in a different state, would kinda get me to make some changes..now don't get me wrong, since I might sound a bit extreme but that's me. Where I live, I see TLs that sound the same, except the same as me. Honestly, nowadays I don't even care anymore.

I had a funny case once...when I started playing with the TL, 6 years ago, i had many different exhaust mods (all custom), and while driving one day, stopped at the light, this guy stops next to me (he was in an 5AT), compliments me for the sound and asks what I had done...so I tell him...remember, at that point the TL was new on the streets and to the mod world..only thing anyone, I mean anyone had done to it at that point in time, was maybe, springs, or CAI...so most owners didnt even know their own car at that point just yet.

A week goes by, and guess what I see...the same guy, had done everything IDENTICAL, and to make it even better, included the same tail pipes painted black, just like I had!

Well, that set the ball rolling for me, and I jetted to the exhaust shop lol...i bump into him few weeks later..and he tells me, how come his car didn't sound like mine. I had to tell him, I got tired of hearing it all over so I changed it!

This stuff has become like fashion...do it cause everyone else is doing it lol

All jokes aside, it is fairly easy to have a custom exhaust done and tweaked your own way by an exhaust shop, less than what you'd pay for catback from one of the companies..but maybe that's just me
