I believe that the CAI does more than the cat. But that is an impressive increase.

i believe my baseline might also have been questionable.
it was somewhat low for a 6MT.

let us say that the average whp on a 6MT is 215.
with today's numbers, it actually sounds more acceptable.

either way, i am very happy with the results.

by the way, i went to TT Performance in Clifton, NJ.
they had a dyno day today. $50 gave you up to 4 pulls which includes A/F ratio.
they told me that my car was running lean. i guess if i get it programmed at the right mixture the car will produce better numbers.

stay tuned....

that price is just to install the new one and removing the old one. it does not mean they will be making you one.

Ya it would get better but the only problem is you can't program our ecu. Do you know of any body that can?

Also how are you going to get your car smoged when it comes time?

I don't think the CAI or the cat back is smog legal but I could be wrong. If it was legal I would love to get all that stuff.

Very nice numbers and keep up the good work. Peace.

Well now I have to ask. Why is the baseline not on the Dyno chart?? It's not valid without having the baseline on the chart, or at least some other dyno chart.

Im not sure we have any CARB numbers yet for the CAI but the exhaust is smog legal because you don't remove any of the catalytic converters. I have the K&N cold air intake and I have to take it off before smog (or just get a different carb number from K&N) but my exhaust is legal....no problems there.

Looks good. I would not want the AF any leaner than that but other than that it looks great. 208fwhp base sounds reasonable, and 230-232fwhp with those two boltons is excellent.

thanks!!

do you think the comptech high volume/high pressure fuel pump will help my A/F ratio?

also, some people have sent me PM requesting for my baseline chart. here is the thread from weeks ago:

No, you would need to tweak your tune in the pcm.

When running a car lean what can it ruin? It can't be good for your car?

i think hondas are normally programmed to run lean for the ULEV or LEV standards. it is for efficiency more than anything else.

Leaner mix would mean that not enough fuel is being applied to the combustion mix. Its a bit hard to believe but this actually causes increase in engine temperatures, as well as exhaust gases, which in turn heats up exhuast piping, primarily the cats. More fuel in the mix would generate more power and keep things cooler.

true, i replaced a cat on a car today that was running lean...too much heat destoryed the other one.

Yeah but too much fuel is also not a good thing. If you run too rich then you can destroy your O2 sensors, cats and get a build-up of carbon deposits in the engine etc.. Also you can actually get more HP from lean conditions but at a price ie. blown rings/seals, bad catylitic converters (if you have any), and holes in your block/pistons etc.. I learned all this from owning a turbo'd car and hanging around people mainly with turbo'd vehicles. Temp changes can even effect how your car is running either lean or rich. Highly modded cars are fun to drive but a pain in the ass to maintain from my experiences.

Check you state emission laws. While I wouldnt remove any cats from the 3rd gen, if you are set on doing so here is what you can do. Carsound (magnaflow) makes a good quality hi-flow cat for obd2 cars (not CA OBD2 however). They will still filter out a lot of the pollutants from your exhaust while not being as restrictive. Stay the hell away from catco. Walker makes a good CA OBD2 cat for domestics if you are worried that you might not pass smog...Again, if you are within your state emissions regulations you can swap out the third cat. Carsound cats run around 150 list though I am sure you can find them for much cheaper since cost on the cats is a lot less that the list price.

3PUTT,
The link you provide to your dyno base is a dyno chart posted by someone else. Can you explain that?

Ok, now if u calculate the wheel horsepower/torque that he got post mods to CRANK power that equates to around 298hp and 258tq. Thats RL territory!!!! Even if these dynos are slightly on the generous side, its still a remarkable increase for around or less then $1500. I personally think that this is more than enough power.

thanks!!!

i actually spent under $1200 for both CAI and Catback.
i haven't driven the car in over a week since it has been at the body shop getting painted. someone keyed my hood over the winter. WDP is a delicate paint to blend.

3putt, thats funny, because my car got keyed too. Almost $4000 worth. I have the injen and r planing on buying the comptech catback, and thats it for power mods, 3 to 4 hp gain w/ elect. stabalizers, if any, no thanx. Now just want some handling and ext. mods. I got a SSM 6speed, the only way to go if U really like driving cars. lip spoiler, silver oem 18's w/ 245/45/18 michelins. Yellow PIAA fogs from japan. now for the near future, will get a-spec susp, tint, catback, and whatever else might come out, its been almost 2 years since the new TL came out, but not much out there, my last car was a VW R32, and for that car theres a ton of stuff.

Now u just have to run a 1/4mile to see how fast our TL can run after the 2 mods???

Great Post 3PUTT. Just what I'm looking for. After you get your car back from the paint shop, would you post 0-60 times, 1/4 miles times, and MPG. I'd love to get that CT Cat back, but I really love my exhaust tips.

3PUTT, were in NJ do you live? Perhaps we could run it at ATCO and see how our cars run.

I got CT with AEM and ASPEC.

Unless the two Dyno's are the same kind/brand (eg. Dynojet), you really can't compare them. Also, if the Dyno's are the same, you must compare SAE to SAE.

Nitrotiger...you probably do have a freak from the factory. I did a search and you were dyno'd on a Dynojet as well. BTW, what's the name of the place that you dyn'd at? Can you repost your dyno?
