Cost of Installing AEM CAI?

i myself have not too much knowledge of things to physically go under the hood take shit apart and install a CAI in my car...i recently purchased the AEM CAI off of ebay...i can't wait to put it on....im taking my car in to get the body kit and the bumper sanded down and repainted due to a few little dings made by myself...i was wondering how much for a body shop to install my CAI what would be a good price for labor....

I had a CAI installed on my TSX, so I assume the labor would be about the same... but the labor was $200 from the dealership... it may be high, but it was worth the peace of mind, besides they f'ed it up along with the oil change that day. They ended up buying my car back because of their errors.

CAI intake should take no more than 1 to 1.5 hours and cost about $75-125 to install....its not too complicated.

why not read up on some DIY threads and attempt it yourself with a couple of buddies? imo, CAI install is not too difficult (although i myself will make my brother do it and help by handing him the right tools).

besides, installing it yourself will give you a chance to thoroughly check out the engine bay (and you will clearly see that twin turbo is out of question). there's not much you can majorly eff up.

around here, i'd say it'd cost about $100 to get someone to install it.

it usually takes me about 30 minutes to install a cai. especially when you dont even need to remove the bumper.. it should be a 20 min. job. which should cost at the max $50.

hahhaa ok superman. ive installed more cold air intakes on accords and tl's than i can remember w/o taking off the bumper and it took more than 20 min. its cool to brag that you can do work faster than everywhere else, but face it, real world time will not be that little, and you will not find a shop that will quote half an hour labor time. he wants to know how much it costs to get it done, a shop will either charge an hour or an hour and a half. my shop charges an hour...about 70 bucks.

70-120 is about the range you should expect, I wouldnt settle for anything higher than 120 as thats nearly two hours of work (depending on labor rate). If you are getting work done on the bumper for something unrelated I would see if the could cut labor cost on one of the jobs...worth a shot at least. Good luck with everything.

the cai intake is easy to install on the TL, its just a time consuming install. i believe some dealers carry aftermarket parts...i know that marin acura is an authorized spoon dealer, and i think (correct me if i am wrong) that some dealers carry comptech parts as well.

I know alot of places here in Vancouver would just do it with the price included.

My previous Type R I paid only $200bucks for a Akimoto Intake system all included with install. My other friend bought one recently for his BMW and it was included too. It took a good 45 min. to install but no charge.

man, to me these rates sound really crazy. I dont know about your area, but there's an auto sound shop in L.A. that does it for $50. Even that seems like a lot for something you can do yourself. And yes, when customers have bought from me in the past, I installed them for free.

LOL @ the Superman comment.

Anway, look at it like this:

$ per hr rate = ?

Let's say $60 per hour.

Should take 1-1.5 hours. It's not hard, but you don't want him to rush it and scratch up yo' whip!
