Comptech SS long term questions.

Been driving the 6sp work truck lately and I like the defined feel of putting it in gear. Im now considering a SS to get rid of the slop in the Acura. Im ok with notchy feeling.

However, has anyone actual put back the original shifting gizzys or remotely regret installing a SS? Why?

How does it shift in the colder weather?

Not sure what you are referring to but I am assuming the stock parts? Anyway, no I dont regret the SS. It has a better response but I do get that notchy feeling from time to time.

Houston do we have cold weather? No ok

Sorry, I cant really answer you on that one.

Hi ATLS_666

I have had my Short Shifter (SS) for sometime now. I wouldn't go back unless I was selling the car. I recommend getting the shifter bushings along with the SS, this will tighten up the shifter slop you're talking about.

I haven't noticed a difference in cold weather vs warm weather. Granted I haven't driven my TL in extremely cold temps.

This is a great inexpensive mod that you get to enjoy all the time. Just get it! & Enjoy it!

The only other downside I heard was someone breaking off the end of his shifter where the short piece is attached.

I put mine on about 6 months after buying the car new (2006) and have had no problems.

That sounds to me as an installer error.

I have a little over a year and no issues here.

I've got a SS in my 05 TL and it's gonna see a cold Canadian winter for its very 1st time. I'll reply to this thread in a month and let ya know how it is. I'm sure it will be fine but we shall see it's never seen -20 or colder.

I have Comptech SS. Since we're both from the same area I'll chime in on the cold weather thing. It's a bxtch to get in 1st gear sometimes lol. Especially when the car is not fully warmed up yet. I find myself having to go from 3rd --> 4th --> then 1st just to get it through. I only have this issue with 1st though, maybe a weighted shift knob will help I'm still running the stock knob.

I live in Canada and installed the SS during the winter without issue, no problems shifting warm or cold. One of the best mods I've done along with the shifter bushings and weighted knob, something you use every time all the time while driving and much nicer than stock, every car I purchase will now have a SS and weighted knob installed.

I think its that notchy feeling. i sometimes have that like it wont go into 1st and I have to retry the shifting again, but IIRC it happen even before the SS.

IMO wieghted shift knobs is just a shift knob. I have tried both and it feels the same. Its all in ones head.

Maybe but it does it for 1 3 5. However, they never pop out from gear; its just a little difficult to put into gear sometimes.
