Comptech exhaust is in!
Comptech exhaust is in!
Arrived today at our dealership! The tips are WAY bigger than it looked on the photos posted here-They have the comptech sport logo engraved on top of the caps and a cool comptech metal plate welded on the side of the tube leading to the muffler. I thought by looking at the pics that the tips would be TSX sized, but they are much larger... I took digital photos already prior to install and will take add'l photos after it is installed and post them-extra ponies in an hour or so!!!!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O!
I don't think I can get a sound clip-but will post photos after the install in about an hour. As far as the dyno test-I don't have access to one but Adam from comptech is calling back in a few with their dyno figures..
Does it look like it would be possible to keep the stock tips and mount them to the comptech portion- I know their is a size difference, but does it look possible. I know you wont be able to get sound clips but can you post an idea if its close to rice, ferrari like sound, muscle, or just a deeper tone to stock. Is the Exhaust price still $875 Thanks

Rets is on the case-I emailed them to him and he is posting... The exhaust sounds awesome!! Not too loud at all-kinda sounds like an aggressive purr-very cool sounding from behind the car. Inside you can barely tell the difference-just the pitch is a little different. As far as performance goes...I ran my MT through redline in first three gears and could feel a little extra push above 6K.. I know everyone here was worried on how it would look-but it is AWESOME! About 50 people have seen it already and all reviews have been good..

Ali Enterprises..No it does not look possible to keep stock tips without serious modification-the openings are alot bigger than stock-another note is that the stock exhaust tubing is much narrower than the comptech tubing. Sounds very cool behind the car-but not much difference inside the cabin. I believe the price was around the $875 area-I was so rushed to get it on I just said CHARGE IT! LOL

Hmmm
I dont like it. The one thing about the back of the TL that made it very elegant was the way the exaust tips were molded into the car in that sqaure sort of way. It is very different and a feture that stands out on its own. I think the round tips loose that elegance about the TL. It kind of looks like the back of a mustang or just about every other high output car on the road now.

Thanks for info, I am going to take measurements of the stock exhaust and then contact Comptech to get their specs, I will then proceed to local performance shop to see if they can rig something up to allow the stock tips to be placed on the comptech exhaust
.
i think it looks fine. it might look better if it had dual round tips at a slight angle cut to the inside tip (instead of the usual top to bottom angle cut) to make it blend to the angle of the exhaust slot. it'll give it somewhat of an M3/M5 look.
i want to know how it sounds. what's the damage for the parts and the labor??

Thank you for being an early adopter and posting the pics!
This looks better than I anticipated. I was worried about the round tips. I do like the way the kit seems to extend to the edge of the rear underbody spoiler. I don't like the way the stock tips get 'set back' when the spoiler is added.
Looks like another example of a top quality Comptech part. I'm almost always impressed by their engineering and the quality of their parts. The welds and finish on this kit look great. Hmmm, my birthday is coming up...these pics might end up costing me some money.
The Comptech exhaust sounds great on the 2nd gen cars and I'm guessing your car is similar. Any droning at all anywhere in the cruising rev range?

FWIW - Whoever is considering installing or having this installed, I can tell you that removing the stock cat-back exhaust is a piece of cake. I had to do this to install the Comptech rear sway bar. If you are not comfortable with tools, I wouldn't pay over $100 because this can be done in 30 minutes (that's both disassembly and assembly).
BTW - I think I might like the tips after seeing the closeups. But, would prefer a square tip to match the cutouts.

one could cutoff the tips from the comptechs and oem's then weld the oem tips back onto the comptechs. the tips in black may also look good (i'm not a big fan of a visually noticed muffler)...
