Which Cold Air Intake?

Im looking to put a cold ait intake, but im thinking of getting an COMPTECH "ICE BOX" instead of the regular tube and a cone. Is it worth the extra cash and is it hard to install

As of now, the Ice Box isn't out yet.
As for the of it's worth the extra cash, it depends on how paranoid you are about hydrolocking your engine. I have had the Injen on for about 2-3 weeks now, and I haven't had any problems driving through rain, plus the sound is awesome. As for the installation, I think the removal of the stock intake is the hardest.

AEM, Injen, FUJITA are all great comanies and all offer cold air intakes for your car. Comptech has not released an Icebox yet.

nope.
All the aftermaket intakes that are out right now, are pretty much the "tube and cone."

thanks for your help Laxplaya11385. I take it you have the AEM intake, did you have to cut it or did it fit as is?

You probably can't go wrong with AEM, Injen, or Fujita. I have AEM and am very pleased with it. It fit perfectly. A pretty easy self-install.

actually, I have the Injen hahaha. You don't have to cut any of them. They fit as is. Just remember to be patient while removing the stock intake, b/c it's a PITA!

The only thing you really have to worry about is potentially hydrolocking your car. Just use your common sense and don't drive into any huge puddles, and you should be fine. As for emissions, i believe all the CAI are legal. The ecu adjusts itself.

Ditto. There are many threads dealing with all these issues.

ECU will learn.

Legal (you can move the temperature sensor for even better performance, which I think may not make it CARB certified, but who cares).

Hydrolocking NOT a problem; just don't drive through three feet of standing water.

My recommendation is AEM. I like them, been using their production since 2002. However, their customer service is shyt. I hate calling them, obnoxious people.

so where do i find this AEM V2 cold air intake your talking about. i cant find any for the 3GL. all i see is for the 2GL. also, anybody know about a SHORT RAM AIR intake for the TL. i was told they should give about the same performance as the cold air for half the price. WHAT YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS AND DO THEY MAKE THEM FOR THE TL?

K&N has a CAI that you can make into a short ram. I think there might be another product that is solely short ram but the name has escaped me. You will still probably get some gains with a short ram but a concern is that the air wont be as cold since the filter sits in the engine compartment as opposed to away from most of the heat.

Also, I think this has already been answered at some point in another CAI thread, but which ones are CARB approved?

You can get the AEM CAI for the 3GTL but as of now, there are no plans for AEM to produce a V2 for it. check out www.aempower.com for their products

Numerous people have put the short intakes on their 3G TLs and if you search this forum you should see the threads on that topic. They do exist but don't work as well, but they're safer.

K&N makes one you can convert back and forth to long/short.

Haven't done either one yet personally, still on the fence and hoping an icebox comes out someday.

I know that Injen is CARB approved for 2004 TL only. AEM is pending approval for 04-2006. Fujita and K&N aren't approved.

No Icebox yet. I don't know what they're waiting for.

It is an icebox but not one that would work with a N/A TL. That icebox is set up to run only with the supercharger.

Let us know when, or if CT makes an Ice Box for the 3G TL.

In the mean time - do the Injen/Fujita/AEM CAIs require the removal of the bumper for installation?

It isn't necessary. But it makes it a lot easier.

How do you clean/change the air filter after installing the AEM CAI. Do you have to pull out the inner fender each time??

Also - What happens when the filter need to be changed because it gets dirty, or becomes less efficient? How do you get to it?
