Changing Brakes
Really depends on how one uses the brakes on their car. I have almost 13k on my car and theres about 50% left from the looks of it when i changed to my winter tires. I was really surprised, i was expecting to change at around 17k from the way i brake.
Don't the TLs have the 'chirpers' that make a squeal when it's time to do the pads?
I'd wait until you hear them.
Eternal, do you really wear out pads that fast?
WFO every start and ABS every stop?
On most of my cars, the pads have lasted like 60k or more.
-Not trying to start an argument, just curious.
thx!

Yeah it was that case on my old 2gen TL but these brembos really hold up well.. it might be cause it has a lot better cooling then the 2gen TL.. i remember those brakes heating up during the summer months then I start to feel the braking power going to shit. but with this car i havent felt it once. Brembos! woot!
agreed. I have over 30K on my brembos, never been changed but will need to be soon. It's starting to get kinda mushy.
Need to find some slotted rotors first though, there seem to be none as of yet for the brembos.

i put in the rotex pads, left the rotors the same (and uncut). the rotex pads have lasted 30k so far. i'm pretty happy with them but i like trying new products out so i'll be swapping them out (with the rotors) in the spring. haven't made up my mind with what yet
Have you had any luck finding slotted rotors at all? I still cant find anything other than the Disc Italia for $500 per pair. That's just overkill IMHO. I wish I could do the PowerSlot's with Hawk HPS pads. That set up on my S2000 lasted 40,000 and still had plenty left when I sold it.
I had the brake squeel under light braking, and it would go away when I pushed harder on my '06 6spd. I had about 3-4k miles on them, and the dealer said it was the calipers. They put some "special" Brembo grease on them and it went away. I've got 13k miles on 'em now. Will be getting some new Rotora's in the spring. Hope it helped.
Um, well I don't know how "special" it is, but the service guy hinted that only dealers could get it, cuz it comes from Brembo.
They recommended at certain service intervals getting the calipers regreased, but they want like 150bucks to pull the calipers and grease them. I would like to find this grease and do it myself. Good luck

Are you sure thats brake caliper grease?
sounds like they are applying some sort of "special" lube allright
A little anti seize compound on any obvious wear/contact areas should take care of the problem. This should be done at pad change but most people fail to and then have noises.

Usually I apply some pad grease to the back of the pads when I put them in the caliper, along with some never seize or pipe dope to the caliper bolts, but I think they said something about the pads and the caliper pins. Whatever they did the first time, it seemed to work. Just started to notice a hint of squeal again at just under 13k. Probably wait until it gets annoying or I change 'em out. I don't know, probably just one of those things.
