Can RV6 V1 jpipe be extended?

I picked up a j-pipe with a badly damaged flex section. I'm going to have the flex section replaced. My question is, can I have the flex section replaced and also extended (since it has to be cut out anyway) to eliminate the 3rd cat? Or will it not clear something that way? Similar to the V3 longtube, except of course it wont be "longtube" but it will simply eliminate the 3rd cat and the need for a test pipe.

Pics.

interesting idea/approach you have. you'll be looking at some added expense with all the welding that'll be involved tho.

maybe someone else can chime in and let you know.

Yeah I figure since they will have to cut that section out and weld in new, I might as well take advantage and have them weld in a longer section. If it costs more than a test pipe then it wont be worth it though.

I don't see how that would be a problem. Fitment wise. Look for some pics of under the car with RV6 V3 installed and just compare how this would look. I think that if RV6 v3 fits, that this one extended should fit. Now I don't know what that would do to the exhaust gasses and shit, would it throw CEL, I don't know anything about that kind of stuff.

It definitely wont throw a CEL, there is no sensor in/after the 3rd cat. I think the only way a shop could do it right would be to do it on the car, and they wont want to touch removing the 3rd cat due to laws around here. So that will probably be my other problem besides potential clearance.

The hanger will need to be extended as well, of course.

Good point, the hanger will have to be relocated moreso than extended.

I am sure there are members close around you that have hookups at local shops that will do this. And I am sure that you can get some guy at an exhaust shop to do it for you. Just tell him it's for track use. And if doesn't wanna do that, tell him to fit it and weld it then take it off, put stock stuff back on and go home and replace it with this one haha

Very true. The exhaust hanger is a good point though, I think I'm going to just end up getting the flex replaced a pick up a test pipe. If the flex is extended straight, it wont be anywhere near the hanger on the body. The other option would be to cut the flange off the end and extend THAT part straight, but that is an extra cut and welds so probably not worth the expense.

Anything can be done. It would be super easy really. If i didnt want to run a high flow 3rd cat i would have done this already. Dont over think it. All it is is another ~9in of pipe.

Well I know its just an extra length of tubing, and it could certainly simply be extended at point A (below). My question was about extending it at point B, regarding clearance issues? If it is extended at point B, it wont be anywhere near the exhaust hanger on the underbody.

Correct. The easy way to do it would be buy the same size flex or a bit larger and just cut the pipe off further back by the merge, then but some extra pipe and extend it at point A. You will have to get the correct flange as well. the inlet and outlet flanges on the cat are different.

Ahhh, that is exactly the kind of good info I was looking for. Thank you! The inlet/outlet flanges are different on the cat. Forget it, I will just get this repaired and pick up a test pipe.

FYI the flange one the jpipe is not the same flange on the exhaust. I do not recommended cutting off the exhaust flange and welding it directly.

thats what Comptechtl2367 said. I would definitely NOT weld the j-pipe right to the rest of the exhaust. Just was considering welding on another 9" to the j-pipe to take the place of the cat, and bolt it to the rest of the exhaust. Not worth the trouble though. Off to find a test pipe and some gaskets.
