CAI air flow question

I have had AEM CAI installed for a while now... I was thinking of taking out that plastic cover that is covering the air flow to the filter and just having that grit there. Is that a bad idea or a good idea? I dont want water getting in and messing my engine up but I do most the most air possible.

you gotta do waht you gotta do man, maybe that cover provides a little pressure to the air flow, who knows...
but if i were you, i will just leave it, for extra protection, both psycologically and physically

maybe it can block "big" rock chips from hitting the filter

I think he means the part of the bumper that's behind the lower grille. In theory, it disrupts the air flow into the chamber behind the bumper where the intake sits. And subinf's right, someone did do this and take pics, but I'm not in the mood to search for it.

It's normal, the hissing is the air being sucked in thru the filter via tube to the engine....and after reading everyones response I know what you mean, at first I thought you wanted to remove the rubber/ hard pastic piece that goes across the bottom of the car and acts as a deflector to cool the engine...sorry
So yes leave the cover on...
