Built myself a CAI.

Had some 4" tubing and filter laying around from my Turboed LSX swapped s10 project. So I built an intake for my TL-S 6sp! Monitored intake temps with my OBD2 scanner. With factory intake: 78* ambient highway cruising temps 109* 1-3 WOT runs 101*.
With new intake: 75* ambient highway cruising temps 96* 1-3 WOT 85*

Sprayed textured bedliner on it for a cheap textured powdercoat look.

I had everything laying around except for the couplers so I have 20 bucks tied into it.

After the first few pics, I was like "meh."

But by the end, I'm now thinking "well done!" Looks good in there. I like it!

Thanks? Haha yea its pretty simple and plain in test fitting steps but a coat of paint makes all the difference. I was surprised all the covers still fit. When reading other peoples threads on making the 4" cai some werent able to fit the batt cover or the strut bar cover.

Some pics of my other toy

Nice CAI and truck! What manifold are you running on it? I SOOO want to turbo the wife's Escalade (and she is all for it), I just hesitate blowing up the 6.2L. I may grab a 6.0 and some 6.2 heads and let it ride.

Logging the intake temperatures you can definately tell a difference with the temperature sensor in the manifold instead of the pipe. It quickly heats up when cruising at low speeds and not much throttle but comes down fast too if you apply more throttle even if staying in gear. Where as typically in a pipe the temps go up and down more gradually especially at idle or low speeds the temps will stay closer to ambient but slowly climb if sitting for a few minutes. On our cars it seems as soon as I stop the temp skyrockets to 120-130 because the engine has all the heat sitting in it. The temps just seem to come back down quicker with the new intake.

Im sure moving the sensor to the pipe like the AEM v2 does would greatly help at the engine seeing cooler air temps and maintaining cooler air temps longer even when stopped. But seeing threads on here people are saying that there was no difference and worse fuel economy?

I need to log timing and see how aggressive honda has the timing vs air temp set up.

I think what you're seeing is the expected outcome. Haven't seen anyone disproving CAI does anything, simply some stating the CAI doesn't do "much" compared to certain other cars with much more restrictive OEM air boxes.

What Ive seen is most cars dont really benefit from an aftermarket intake on a stock car. its once you open up the exhaust side which seems to be more beneficial on most of today. Modern cars benefit more from headers/downpipes/j-pipe and high flow cats then intakes if you were to just add one.
