Brake Rotors 2007 Type S

Hey Guys

I need some assistance after not finding any good advice on the boards.

I have to replace my rear rotors and am deciding to change all four from stock to start completely fresh.
I was looking at the XLR8 package and it looks pretty nice…

http://hoa.excelerateperformance.com...i-1805422.aspx

My only hang up is no warranty on aftermarket goods installed from the dealer and, will it hold up longer and stronger than OEM?

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a great rotor/pad combo?

Also have been away from AZine for some time and it's great to be back.
I traded my 06 WDP TL for an 07 MDX for the family and then recently purchased my new love, the 07 KBP TL-S. My driveway has two dope ass Acura's. I love it.

Thanks for your help!!!

why wouldnt they hold up?

ive been running powerslot slotted rotorts(sister company to stoptech) up front for 30k miles.

and ive been running stoptech blank rotors for about 10k miles in the rear.

Both front and rear are holding up WAAAAAAAY better than stock.
I'm using ceramic pads for both front and rear.

also, they dont say their brand on the rotor itself.
unless acura takes the time and money to test or verify that they are aftermarket, you wont have ANY problems with warranty

great info, thank you justnspace

not sure why they wouldn't hold up, that's why I asked!

The dealership for whatever reason won't warranty the "work" for installing non-OEM parts. Hence my reason for posting to find out the best brake rotors available for the TL-S.

The STOPTECH rotors are a significant improvement over stock and they are much more durable. They will outlast the OE rotors and be much less prone to distortion.

It comes with STOPTECH performance pads. But if you have a different request let me know and we'll put together a package for you.

I run those rotors & pads on the front of my 6MT (brembo) and they've been great. A lot less dust than Acura/Brembo pads. Brake feel is still fantastic. Only minimal/rare random noise which is much better than the Acura/brembo pads. I Never pushed the temp limits on either pad so I cannot comment on fade, but they are supposed to have a much higher/wider operating temp range (up to 1200*f).

BTW: XLR8, you should consider switching to the alloy rear rotors at that price point. The part number is 125.40061. You would be EXTREMELY competitive with Centric vendors if you included that upgraded rear rotor.

We are working on that. Most of the front rotors are already the 125. compound and the rears will be upgraded shortly. It will likely remain the same price too.

Nice. BTW Centric also does a Cryo treated (hardened) option for all their rotors now. I think you just add CRY to the end (for the blanks). Not sure on the price hike though. On TireRack it seems to be around $25 each for blanks. But only $10 each for slotted.

Thanks!
I'm also the one who's been emailing you today…

I'm not even sure carbon pads are necessary for me though… I think the stop tech pads would be sufficient.

I'm into the slotted set up the most, will be purchasing soon!

Any idea on when this will happen?
I'd like to purchase after you've upgraded the kit.

Although I was just inspecting my rear rotors and boy are they shitty looking…
I'll need to replace sooner than thought.

Thank you XLR8

Hey fellow Acura enthusiasts just replaced my front and rear brakes on my 05TL which is a 6Spd version Dynamic, I love my TL... I purchased the STOP TECH power slotted rotors approx 1. Month ago today and all I have to say they are worth every penny ! I priced many different brands for overall cost vs Quality and STOPTECH won in my books... THe pads I went with are also the STOPTECH 309 street performance, they are dusty but grab very very well, the brake in period was approx 150km of regular driving.

+1

He's referring to the blank package. The slotted rotors already use the upgraded rotors all around.

Has anyone had the stoptech rotors that come in the acurazine xlr8 brake package for very long? I believe that they do work well and last long without warping, but I am wondering if they will still rust like the OEM rotors right along the hub. If i am gonna pay ~$400 for new rotors I want some sort of anti rust coating, like adams rotors has (i think its coated in zinc, or made with zinc). And yes the zinc rubs off very quickly but only where the pads touch the rotors, the rest of the rotor is still coated and will be rust free (supposedly). I am on the fence between those and these. That rusty ring is so shitty!

like ive stated in the 2nd post, ive been running the front XLR8 rotors for over 30k miles and rear XLR8 rotors for 10k miles.
they are covered and protected at the hub, as well.
so, no rust like the stockers.

plus, you can easily paint the stock rotor hubs with a high temp black paint and it will achieve the same thing.

Ya I am thinking about paint, I just hope that my rotors wear out soon so that I will have the reason to upgrade. I am determined to spend money, it's this or aspec lip!

Stock rotors on the brembos come painted too. The Centric/Stoptech/Powerslot stuff is all e-coated black everyhwere except the friction surface.

Now if you live within the rust-belt, you can certainly expect ANY coating to wear away within a few years. Even zinc etc...

We've been selling these rotors for a decade and more heavily in the past 5-6 years. They are the best rotors on the market, bang for the buck, IMO. They are durable, high quality, properly machined, and reasonably priced.

And there is black e-coating on the hubs and vanes that will prevent oxidation on the surfaces where the pad doesn't make contact.

why would you pair crap rotors with the most expensive pads? Seems odd.

Been running Powerslot slotted rotors from Tirerack now for 40K miles. Highly recommended. Better brake feel, less squealing, and lasts longer.

They're certainly not crap rotors. Tons of threads on Subaru forums about them being built better than Brembo blanks and they held up through two track days and countless numbers of hard drives on my Impreza. No cracks, no warping. They're not coated on the hats which sucks but just paint them and you're good to go.

Shout out to Excelerate!

Had slotted rotor and pad package installed a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier, it's like a brand new car.

Super responsive with a ton of initial bite upon pushing the brake pedal down.

Great price to boot.

Thank you!!!

Nice. I'm gonna need new rotors this summer. (Picking up some SS brake lines while I'm at it). Going with blanks for the front and the rear. I had some hesitation to go aftermarket because of how awesome the Type S Brembos are. Seems like I should have no hesitation at all. My only question now is what kind of pads should I use? Can anyone comment on the Stoptech pads vs OEM Brembo pads?

Hey XLR8, I see the kit comes with pads. Can you comment on the available options?

Thanks all!!

I would recommend the STOPTECH Performance pads. They are a great performance pads with good manners and have fairly low dust and minimal if any noise. They are also a fraction of the cost of the OE Brembo pads.

We will send you STOPTECH Performance pads or ceramic pads if you like but the ceramic pads offer less performance, less dust and less noise.

I agree. The stoptech pads and Centric high-carbon rotors are the way to go for OE Brembo type high performance at a fraction of the price.
