Brake caliper upgrade to 5AT? MT Brembos fit on AT System?

Wondering if anyone has ever taken a set of the Brembo Calipers that come on the MT TL and put them on an AT TL? Are the rotors the same? If you bought these would they go right on my AT model? Worth the upgrade?

Looks like I could get a set of Acura/Brembo brand calipers for roughly $600, would be cool if I could get these and put them on the existint AT car and calipers. I think the rims are the same? I know there are spacing issues for many with the Brembo's would I have these issue if everything else stays the same?

Would this upgrade my braking capabilities? They must be better calipers after all... any feedback is appreciated, thanks in advance.

For that money, might as well go aftermarket to get the best bang for your buck. But then again, there probably aren't that many, if any, options for the 3G...

I looked into this when I first bought my car. I even posted here and received the same info as the dealership. You also need to change the spindles and halfshafts. There is alot more to it than just swapping rotors and calipers. Trust me, I too really prefer the Brembos.

I took the stock Brembo calipers and rotors off my 04 TL 6mt and replaced them with Stoptech calipers and oversized rotors for the 04 TL automatic. I track my TL at Summit Point Motorsports Park and the Brembo calipers and rotors, while a great street setup, couldn't handle the heat of slowing down the 3500 pound TL lap after lap. I spoke to Dave Zackhausen at length about the swap and checked part numbers at my local Acura dealer. I had to buy the knuckle and bearing for an 04 TL automatic and just swapped them. One hiccup...I also had to have two sleeves made, one for each knuckle, at a local machine shop to replace the ones that were pressed onto the bottom of the 6mt knuckle ($3 worth of metal, $147 worth of labor). On the street I can already tell a difference, although some of it may be in my head. As soon as the season starts I will be back out at Summit Point to test the Stoptechs at speed. I'll let you know how they work. Anyone who wants to inquire about my Brembo's and rotors should PM me.

Anyone else know if this will work / is possible?

Sounds like you have to change the rotors too, but it may work? I know people said go with an aftermarket kit but I'd really rather keep the car 100% Acura parts that way I can tell my wife it's all 100% stock parts honey! /grin

Seems like it would be doable, maybe the brake lines might be a little different...

After-market brakes...

If I wanted to change my 5AT stock brakes to after-market (BREMO or whatever), what exactly would I need to change (front and back or just front/rotors and calipers)?

Is there a solid reference site as well as supplier that I can email or call that members here suggest?

I had the Stoptech big brake kit put on my 06 TL AT. It was I think $1595 for the kit from the (from the shop I had the work done at, the list is between $1700 and $1900), $30 for a change to ceramic pads, and $90 for the install. It's nice and just barely fits under the stock 17" wheels. The Stoptech kit is for the front brakes only. http://www.stoptech.com/

I'd like to upgrade to a 13" vented disk with a larger 6 or 8 piston caliper.

I'd be willing to sell my brembos with rotors and pads for $1,2000.

Angry

The only thing(s) I changed were the (OEM to StopTech) calipers, rotors, stainless steel lines, and knuckles. The ABS sensors plugged right in. I went to Summit Point several times this year with the StopTech set-up and Performance Friction 01, I think, track pads. The difference between the Brembo's and StopTech were night and day. I am hanging with or outbraking M3's, Porsche's, even Vettes. Of course the driver has a lot to do with it and some of these guys might not want to push it as hard as I do but more than one driver has commented that "You sure are driving the hell out of that 4 door family sedan." My philosophy at the track is the same as the Westminster dog show philosohpy about Terriers..."any scar honorably received will not be held against the animal."

Get Rotora....way better bang for the buck...and they make a matching front and rear set. Go with the Brembos...and you are still stuck with the crappy OEM rear brake setup arent you?

I hear ya about the Rotora kit, but I don't really plan on tracking my car. The fronts do most of the braking anyway, and besides I would like to keep my car stock looking as possible.

I see you are running Yokohama's, but your sig says AS100's, are you talking about AVS-ES100's?

I believe you are right...that appears to be a typo there. I gotta fix that one. They are AVS ES100's. Thanks for pointing that out so I can fix it!
