The best CAI for the TL is the stock one.

The TL comes with a CAI from the factory but it has a resonator installed so you don't get the same sound that you would from an aftermarket CAI. Many members (myself included) just cut out the resonator box so you can get the sound from it.

I was looking into that! Will it make the stock intake more vulnerable to dirt by taking the resonator off?

somewhat yes, but not to a significant amount where you would be bothered by it

If i was you i wouldn't even bother with it. You are not going to gain anything. If you like the sound get a cai. If you really want one I can sell you my K&N Intake with an almost brand new AEM 7" filter.

A resonator is design to alter sound vibrations not to filter. It shouldnt affect you at all. Again, it just negates the sound that is occuring when the intake is sucking in air.

Aslo, OP I advice you to search and check out our vendors. There are many numerous topics on this that you can read and gain some insights on what you want.

The AEM V2 is the most popular CAI for the 3G TL. I know a lot of people say it doesn't make power but there have been dynos to prove otherwise.

Just for reference here is a dyno link for the K&N CAI which is very similar to the regular AEM CAI.

If you want the sound and the aesthetic benifit, get a CAI. other than that, rossv1 gave pretty sound advice.

K&N sacrifices filteration to get flow. don't use that filter for god's sake.

I installed a AEM V2 and i noticed a small gain and enjoy the low, raspy growl of the CAI! I recommend doing it, but doing it yourself is a pain in the butt!

Let's be a little more specific here. For a stock car the stock intake is fine. But once you start modding it (pcds jpipe PnP runners manifold tb) then a intake will make power. If you plan to have a full bolt on car then a custom 4'' is what you want now, unless you want to stay stock until that time.

a 4" intake is crazy to big....i just installed my AEM v2 and i deff enjoy the throater sounds it gives the motor under WOT but just driving it u dont notice the difference and our cars get crazy heat soaked so a cai is deff worth it in the long run and for better gas mileage, which is one of the main reasonn i got mine, but also for better performance...cant say i noticed a significant difference in power but im sure with more bolt ons ill feel it better....so for now i would say just get rid of the resonator box and get a better filter than the oem stock one

How much power if any have people even gained on the dyno with a CAI? This is one mod I've kind of ignored for a while since most people agree the stock one is perfectly suitable.

The K&N CAI gained 7 whp.

www.knfilters.com/dynocharts/69-0021_dyno.pdf

There was a dyno of another 3G base TL that made 22 whp off of a catback exhaust and an AEM CAI. So you should expect 7-10 whp from a proper CAI.
