Atlp J Pipe Gaskets

Hey, guys need some help. Just recieved my J pipe and it has the 2 small flange gaskets with it but nothing for the rear flange. Question is does this just go metal to metal? Vehicle is in the air as I write this.

All the pics I've see show the 3rd cat has o-ring gaskets. As long as you can verify that the o-ring is in good shape (you might want to clean it with a non-petroleum based cleaner, just don't rip it), and isn't flattened (it should be higher than the cat flange surface) you should be fine.

Mine came with three gaskets... You'll be fine to run without until Mike sends you one.

Thanks for the input guys, metal to metal worked just fine. Man does it pull hard now on the top end.

Can't wait to put mine on. Fed Ex delivered today. But... the 3rd cat test pipe, which shipped the same day won't be in until tomorrow. Go figure...

The J-pipe comes with 2 gaskets, or 3 if you have the race pipe. It will work fine without it as the factory cat has a built in O-ring. You can also just use some gasket sealant, or if needed, I can always send you a gasket.

Hey Mike,

I just got my J-pipe. The race pipe should arrive tomorrow. Have you ever given thought to providing the self-locking nuts that Honda recommends replacing when installing these parts? These parts go through a lot of mechanical and thermal cycling and the hardware is likely to loosen. I'm going to run by the dealer and pick up 12 new 10mm x 1.25 self locking nuts tomorrow.

The J-Pipe is a work of art BTW...

^ Good idea, but overkill...

I've had my jpipe on/off 4 seperate times over 20K miles, and never once were the nuts loose.

It's a great idea, but I don't think necessary in this application. I've had my J-Pipe and cat, as well as exhaust, on for 30K miles, through many heat cycles and track cycles but never had any problems with bolts coming loose either. It's not a bad idea though if you need that piece of mind.

Just received my J pipe last week and installed it yesterday. Very well constructed and was a better fit than the factory pipe. That being said I was surprised, especially after having read this thread about not needing the third gasket for the cat, to find that the o-ring is actually on the end of the factory pipe and not the cat (see attached picture of the factory J pipe and o-ring). I couldn't just put metal on metal or use high temp silicone. I learned my lesson on those two options a long time ago. So I ran out to AutoZone and bought a sheet of gasket material and made my own. No big deal, but I would recommend sending the rear gasket along with this great product.
