ATLP BASE EXHAUST RESONATED or NOT?

hey guys i just need some opinions... I got an 05 NBP TL. I already made up my mind on getting an ATLP BASE EXHAUST. Should I get it with a resonator? I looked at some videos like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnLsyuIHe5o
and the base on that one is NON-RESONATED. I love the tone of it though.. but if i get one that is non-resonated is it gnna sound like a ricer. coz i mean it is a TL ya know. lol. and from the video it does sound hella nice. is the resonated really quieter than that or does it still have the same sexy tone to it like that but just a little less?
thx for all the inputs in advance.

-Henry

Non-resonated. The exhaust has a deep tone, not a ricer tone.

ATLP Base + J-pipe v2 + test pipe. I want to add PCDs, but would like minimal rasp...should I plan on getting a resonator or HFC?

hmm, if thats what you define ricer than, i guess you dont know what ricer means!! last time I checked doing a performance mod that will give you good amount of power and some rasp because motor is flowing less restricted is not categorized as ricer....now if you don't like the raspiness to this then thats fine, but don't say it sounds ricey. But hey thats just my 2cents!!!

Rhasp is rice. No way around it. Order your exhaust with a resonator you will not regret it. Rhasp sounds so cheezy and makes everyone around you laugh at you. Trust me. I am welding in a resonator to my GF's type-s this weekend because shes embarrassed to hit 2500 rpm because the car sounds like its ready to have the exhaust fall out from the underbody.

And BostonSilverTypeS please show me a comparison link where a resonator made a difference in power. Do you even know why it vibrates at 2500 rpm? Has nothing to do with the *flow* as you stated or power.

^^who said anything about vibration...I said rasp not vibration, if you getting vibration then something is not right.....Dude I don't know you and am not going to have a debate about this when it's been talked about so much already, but like I said you have your opinion I have mine...

Oh by the way if Rasp is so **ricey** then I guess a Ferrari Enzo is one ricey motha f*ckin car, No way around it I guess

Its called resonating frequency. Wiki it. Thats why it is most prevalent at 2500rpm because at 2500hz (sound frequency) it makes the exhaust resonate and this is why you hear it vibrate or *rhasp* as you would like to call it. Why do you think they are called *resonators*. They affect the sound frequency so it does not resonate the exhaust.

Don't call me out just because I am new. Posts mean nothing.

And as for the Enzo its fast... our engines... not so much.

If you want to have a loud exhaust then you have to have the car for it. Rice burners with fart cans are stupid because they are all show, no go. I have nothing against loud exhaust, but I do have something against loud exhaust when not necessary.

^lmao....sorry no fart can here...stock exhaust, def not calling you out and thanks for the 101 on resonators buddy I just got so much smarter...I could give a shit about posts, I posted clips for people to see the video and see what the car would sound like if they were thinking of doing stage4 and what not....like I said its kool you dont like my exhaust note and trust me I don't expect everyone to like it, It really don't matter but dont sit there and type to me like I'm some idiot who was born yesterday and doesn't know what the fuck a resonator does or doesnt do bro.......as far as rice burner and fart cans yes that is stupid, but I see your definition of ricer is very diffirent then mine.....

Also you saying our engine "not so much" fast....not really, now if you were to say our cars are no so fast then yeah because the weight of the car is what makes this car no so fast.....3.5l 286 ponies out of a all motor V6 is pretty impressive, but I guess thats nothing to you.....stick that engine in a nice coupe that weights lets say less than 2500lbs and you got yourself a 12sec car or faster, but I guess thats still too slow for yah......and because you see the TL as Luxury car that shoudnt have loud exhaust, I may see a Sport sedan that I want the V6 engine to be heard....Like I said before and will saying a million more times, TO EACH IT'S OWN....I won't convice you otherwise and you damn sure will not convice me either.....

Oh I know to each its own thats why I have a resonator and you dont. Its all good I was just stating my opinion thats all and thats why we have these forums to discuss what we would want on our own setup based on what others have done. I have my 3rd muffler removed but decided to keep the resonator because of the exhaust sound on my GF's car as hers is removed.

I have nothing against our engine... but when your comparing it to an enzo I have to laugh. There is nothing even similar to the two cars or two engines except maybe the fact they both run on gas with pistons and rods.

I love my TL and the engine is impressive (Can smoke a bunch of cars out there) and yes its a heavy ass car but thats what you get from a fullsize. I just don't find it fast enough to warrant screaming exhaust tones. But hey, its your car do with it what you want and Ill do mine how I want. Thats the fun part about this hobby rite

If everyone had the same cars setup the same way then it would be pretty friggin lame.

And ps... im glad you now know something about resonators. HTH

^^. Never said anything about our cars comparing it to an Enzo....Obviously that car is out our league, I simply stated since you said Rasp is rice then I guess Enzo would be rice for you. That is all I said show where I compared an Enzo to a TL....I was talking about Noise of Rasp...Another example of a car that is not as expensive as an Enzo would be E46 M3 which is also very raspy from the factory...but it's all good.....but you are right it would be pretty lame if everyone had same set-up..me personally I love the fact that everyone has diffirent exhaust tones and all, so you get to experience all tones without doing them yourself

p.s. I would hope to know just a lil about resonators being a Tech for BMW

Yeah man its all good dont worry. My rents have a bmw so I know the rhasp you are referring to. Even their I6 have it in the exhaust tone stock.

And the point I was trying to get through was that an enzo has the performance to back up the louder exhaust thats all. Race cars can be loud because they have the power to back up the sound where street cars should be tamed down a bit since they are on the street.

Like I said I have nothing against loud exhaust, it just needs to be able to back it up with equal performance.

This is why on my toy car when it comes out for a cruise I dont enable the spark cut rev limiter and why I dont want it backfiring everytime I shift. Now if I was racing sure why not, can help spool the turbo with the spark cut on shifts but on the street is lame to have that running.

And for the record I do not mind some rhasp as long as its through the powerband. Only coming on around 2300-3000rpm and then dwindling off doesnt turn me on.

I can see were going to be good friends on this board haha

I had the base atlp on my 07 tl. I would definitely get a resonator for the base otherwise, 1) it's too loud and 2) the drone in the cabin in really bad/loud. I had my base exhaust in for 2 weeks without resonator and i was embarrassed to step on the gas because i think it's too loud (maybe its just me). To answer your question, YES, youll still have that sexy atlp sounds with the resonator installed!!

see I just got the ATLP base resonated and i feel the exact opposite. I want to hear more because it is basically silent to me. Hey DesireL1027 wanna swap the middle pipe so you can have the res and ill have the non-res? That would make my life
