hmm... the gauges is seal on the pillar.
and the pillar will not fly out when airbag open...
it will just open up a little to let the airbag pop out...
if you seen any TL & Accord with side airbag pop out before, youll know what im talking about.

On VbP.com, the OP claimed you needed the full TL-S steering wheel and ECU. With the base TL, you only need the paddle shifter mechanism?
I would love to see pics of the install @ the steering column...

Three Wheelin'
I would be down if someone would do a DIY! I want them real bad considering the torque steer with a S/C is insane! With paddle shift i can shift and still keep both hand on the wheel! I need this!!!!
And the gauges will do nothing if the side air bag goes off... it does not come out of the pillar hahahahaha.

Paddle shifters on an automatic aren't any more useless than the current "sport shift" gates. If a person doesn't use sport shift then paddles are kind of pointless. I had a 2011 TL loaner from the dealer and found the paddles much more convenient than using the old shifter gate.

How did you wire the paddle shifter to the center console shift box. I just got my hands on a type s steering wheel with the paddle shifter and all. I current have a 08 Acura TL. I thought it would just be plug and play but i guess not. So how did you wire the paddle shifter to get them to work?

Did anyone figure this out?
I have an 03 and someone on the 2nd gen tl fb page did it but is keeping it a secret so ones don't copy him haha.
Did anyone ever do a DIY? googled it and looked on a-zine search results but haven't found one yet. Was thinking of adding the newer tl steering wheel and adding the paddle shifters. Rarely use the sport shift but would use it more on the steering wheel more if I had them. Another thread everyone said it's easy doing 2 wires but because the steering wheels so much it's not worth it, but now that the cars are older and it's not 2008 they're a lot cheaper.

I had a 4th gen loaner when I had the timing belt replaced. Hated those paddles, a stick is soooo much more in tune with a car. Paddles are way overrated in my opinion.

I'm a TL noob, but I have to think the AT shifter would have to be in sport mode before the paddles or any electronic switch could toggle the shifting.
My wife's daily driver is a 2013 MDX, and that works two ways:
1) you can ad-hoc use the paddle, which is handy when descending a big hill and don't want to ride the brakes
2) you can move the AT shifter knob into sport and then the paddles are required for up/down shifts
I am guessing #1 above would be impossible if you just retrofitted a TL-S wheel with paddles to a base TL.
