Any Cali people passing smog with HFPC

Hey bro, didn't you just get an answer on that in the last thread? It depends on what set-up you have on the exhaust; the gentleman posted his passing with statistics while using 3 HFC and even probably passing with 3rd delete, as he stated.

Yeah...........I thought I answered that specific question already?

Does it cost money to get tested each time?
Do the testing centers report any failures (sniffer or visual) to the city/state?

The place I went had a free re-test policy but it can vary I think.
I'm pretty sure all their stuff goes through DMV but I haven't had any bad effects from failing... I did pass it the next day so maybe it overwrites any failure messages. Dunno.

My feeling is once they notice you are playing with the cats or fail visual, the car is labeled a gross polluter and you are in trouble. You need to reinstall the stock cats and have it smoged, the risk of trouble is not worth the couple hrs work to change out the cats.

Of course HFPC will fail the visual if they know what they are looking at. my tech did not even do a visual on the 3rd cat.

it is completely illegal to tamper with any emissions equipment.

According to Wiki, it's not illegal to tamper with it, but illegal to remove it and not replace it with another immediately.
Just browsing on the net the visual is more to see if the component if there and installed correctly. A smog tech isn't going to be able to tell if that is your car's OEM cat or not.
The visual doesn't discover if it pollutes more or less, that's the emissions part.
Not arguing, this is just what I'm finding on the net and I'm trying to figure out why it would fail visual when there is a component there and installed correctly.
When my old car failed smog due to a bad cat, the authorized shop replaced it with a magnaflow that met the state emission standards, which was totally not OEM.

You're probably right though that if it looks like a cat, and is in the spot that is supposed to have a cat... it'll probably be fine on visual.
What I'd wonder though is would HFPCs even pass the emissions portion?? I'd guess no.

if they look for a third cat and its not there.............fail
if they look for primay cats and there is something there that doesnt look quite OEM then they will test it. My HFPC pass cali smog tests.

I forget what thread but I remembered reading that it does. This week I'm doing HFPCs and HFC on v1 xlr8 j pipe which is not the same, but may provide some insight. I'm worried more about visual with the aem v2 and the HFPCs

yeah I do remember reading it might...but I dont really want to go get a smog check thinking it might pass when it wont. if there's any members that have done the hfpc with 3rd cat delete and passed in CA, I'd definitely like to know. it might give me the incentive to get the atlp v2 jpipe instead of rv6 v3 if it wont pass without the 3rd cat

My car didn't pass cali smog with HFPCs and high flow 3rd cat. You're screwed without third cat and HFPCs. The smog place didn't have a working printer so in not sure how close I was. I'm going to put back my oem 3rd cat and go to another place today
Luckily they didn't charge me for the test

visual is not a problem here in LA. A lot of techs will look the other way. However, rigging the sniffer to pass will definitely be extra $$$, about $200 as thisaznboi said
sockr1 is saying rv6 hfpc, xlr8 v1 jpipe, and xlr8 hfc wont pass the sniffer. are you disagreeing?

I just checked my oem cats and they have no visible casting or stamp mark that says they are oem. At least nothing is visible with the heat shields on and I know these techs do not take off our heat shields in the 15 min it takes to do the smog test

I@paperboy yes I am disagreeing that u will not pass smog if u have all high flow precats. It will be on the high side unless they changed the machines again. What u need to do is go out on a lot run and get those cats extra hot, it helps speed up the catalyic process. If you had pcd then that's another story
@ sockr1 Problem is you have no heat sheild that's a dead give away they are not stock.
