Another exhaust mod post :)

Hey everybody!

It's my first time posting here but have been a reader for the Acura TL 3G postings. (Since July) I recently purchased an 194k km(120k miles) 05 Acura TL in ABP. It's a 6 speed and also my first manual car. I decided to buy an Acura TL for it's v6, reliability, and decently sized trunk space.

I wanted to make this post to share my experience with my local exhaust shop and modifying my exhaust note. I know there's been a lot of post about exhaust modifications, but I couldn't find much on Magnaflow Resonators + Muffler deletes. It's mostly been Dynomax res.

I paid $300 for a 22'' magnaflow resonator, resonator delete, mid muffler delete. (Replaced the stock res with the magnaflow), After a month, I felt that my preferred exhaust note was almost there, but not quite. I really liked Ultimatum127's modification from what I watched on his YouTube channel and what his postings on Acurazine. I deleted to try the rear muffler delete as well which cost me $200. From initial impressions, the car sounds so aggressive and really just made me super excited to drive the car, but when I sat inside and started driving, it felt like a subwoofer pulsating through my ears. I've watched so many videos and read a ton of forum posts about the magnaflow res with mufflers deleted being a great aggressive tone with little drone, but the videos never catch the 20hz pulsating inside the vehicle. It occurs often when i'm revving up from 1st gear to 3rd gear for city cruising or just pushing the pedal to gradually speed up on the highway in 5th gear. I kind of wish I didn't try to fix something that wasn't broken. My goal was to get it the lower rpms a bit more aggressive but not mess with the top end. The rear muffler delete made the car twice as loud with an obnoxious ear rumbling noise. I was wondering if anybody had some tips to remedy this!

What i've came across so far in some posts from a couple years ago is to purchase Magnaflow 11365 rear mufflers. Does anyone have experience with Magnaflow 11365s paired with a 22'' Magnaflow Resonator + Mid muff delete?

Also, I think I paid way too much for these modifications. I live in Toronto, Ontario and I can't seem to find good prices at exhaust shops. If anybody lives in Toronto and knows a good exhaust shop that does a decent job for a bit less, please let me know!

Here's some pictures of my ride. Still needs some detailing which I plan on doing during my reading week in school. I was shooting a music video and my buddy had some time to get some sunset shots of the car

Hoping to post/reply to more Acura TL postings! I love this car and I really want to keep it for a couple years. Thanks everyone

If your ever in the Oakville area there's JPG exhaust. Haven't been in a few years but they always gave the best prices.

Thanks, but I'm not very stoked about the exchange rate between USD & CAD. I prefer to deal locally. Thanks though!

I just contacted JPG Exhaust and Laura (their manager) just quoted me $500+ tax to install two magnaflow mufflers...Is it just me or is that extremely overpriced?

just relied to them. They misunderstood and thought I wanted to buy the magnaflows from them haha, they said it was $120/muffler. I'm using my own TLs stock tips as well.

i also got quotes from three other places that were cheaper.

LG exhast, GT custom exhaust, and majestic mufflers all quoted me 80-100$/muffler.

i guess now I'm thinking of quality. I've seen GT custom exhaust's work and they seem pretty good. I'm going to confirm if they use 304 stainless piping.

Yeah, i'm personally going to get the Magnaflow 11365 muffler, vibrant ultra quiet resonator 1141, and quad staggered chrome blue tips. I think that gives the car a much more "G35 tuner" sound to the car. And all that for only $250 in the states. About $120 to get it all hooked up here. I've heard too many issues about drone with the Magnaflow resonator.

I recently added the 11365s to my setup. It's the first day and so far, It doesn't sound much different from the rear stock mufflers I had before. There's a slightly deeper tone than stock rear muffs. Some said that it takes time for the 11365s to break in and be louder so I'm hoping for that.

My setup is currently have a 22'' Magnaflow Res -> MM Delete -> 11365 Magnaflow rears.

In Toronto, it was $300 for parts/labour for the 22'' magnaflow res + MM Delete. Then after a while I spent $200 to delete the rear muffs. Drone on highway was driving me nuts so I quickly changed it. I bought 2 Magnaflow 11365 muffs for 245$ after tax and paid $240 cash to weld them on. Wasted so much money for the sake of sound. If I had to do it over again, I'd just go with a dynomax + MM delete and call it a day.

Dynomax is the the same as Magnaflow tho..If anything. Should've been: Vibrant Resonator -> mid muffler delete -> Magnaflow mufflers -> new tips. TIps play a good role in sound change. Are you still running stock tips?

It was a bit too late to decide on the vibrants. I chose the 22'' magnaflow resonator from the amount of posts and videos on them. I think there was one guy on YouTube that has a silver TL and installed a vibrant resonator on his car. It was hard to gauge the sound off of one setup.

I'm still running stock tips. I wasn't aware that tips actually made a difference in sound. I was always curious why tips cost over $100 at the shop haha. I'll look into tips for sound! If you have any info on it, I'd appreciate it. Do you have a base model TL as well?

For now, I'm going to break in my magnaflow rears and see what happens. I'm planning to save my money at this point. I've spent almost $1000 on a setup that isn't even a performance catback. When you do your setup, send me the link! I'd love to check it out.

Yeah, from what i've heard, tips make a worlds difference as well. Like a 1 inch compared to a 3 inch. I do have a base tl, manual. These are the tips i'm getting, hopefully with the ASpec rear too.

Wow!! These are a nice price!! Tips are about 140$/piece at the muffler shop I go to.

So if the outlet size on the 11365 is 2.25'', are these tips intentionally 2.5'' to 3.5'' so they can fit over the 11365 magnaflow mufflers?

Really looking forward to your build! send some pics and videos when you get it. I want to see how it'll look in the base model TL.

I might actually be getting an Aspec rear if things work out with another member. But yeah, any exhaust shop should be able to fit those tips on the muffler. I can't wait for it man. Taking it one step at a time tho, will probably be end of November when it is all said and done.

Lucky that you're located in the states. I'm in Canada and OEM aspec rears in Abyss blue pearl are extremely rare. I could buy a duraflex aftermarket rear bumper and get it painted but I've heard bad things about aftermarket bumpers. Quad tips on the aspec look really nice. Looking forward to the build.

Nice!!

you should film the revs and drive bys for each stage you do. It'll help a lot of people deciding on exhaust mods.

I see what you mean, I dunno, it almost as if you're going back to stock. Is that mid muff delete, magnaflow resonator, magnaflow mufflers?

Yup. From the cat-back, it's 22'' Magnaflow Resonator -> Mid Muffler delete with 2.25'' straight pipe -> 11365 Magnaflow rear mufflers.

This setup was extremely loud without the rear mufflers. It's crazy how much volume the 11365s cut out.

This was how it sounded like before without the 11365s in the rear. (Straight pipe in the rears before) It was beautiful but the drone drove me nuts and it was probably 4x louder than the setup I have now. Revving up from 1.9k-2.3k RPM caused a hum that sounded like the subwoofers were just blasting a 20hz tone. It was ok in the city since I went past those RPM ranges fairly quickly, but it's most apparant when I'm highway driving and I need to maintain speed/accelerate in 6th gear because the car cruises around 2.1k. (Right in the middle of the hum zone)

I decided to put the 11365s hoping that it'll fix the drone and quiet it down JUST a bit because it was a straight through designed muffler. Somehow, it made the car sound really quiet...I'm getting tired of spending money on trying to find the right sound. I'm just going to keep these and change the tips if they really do make the difference.

If you can, have them weld the tips onto your setup and film another video! I'm really curious as to how it changes the exhaust note.

yeah I understand you. I heard a lot of good things about a vibrant resonator with the 11365's and mid muffler delete as well as tips. The tips and muffler for me will be happening sometime next month, ttrying to save up for some other things real quick.

I'm really curious about that setup, too. Hopefully my rear 11365s break in and the sound gets better. I just hit 200k km on my TL so I'm planning to do the fluid changes and buy some winter tires for the snow up here in Toronto.

Keep posting here with your updates! I'd love to hear the rest of the process down the line.
