AEM Installed This weekend

The install took the better part of the day, @ 4 hours. The directions were pretty good for the most part, but i think they were lacking in the area of re attaching the hoses, installing the new ones & draining the coolent. The one thing i was surprised with was the increase of exhaust noise. Although i love the new growl of the car, it was a lot more then i expected.

This ws my firsy mod to my car and i am realy plaesed with it. I would definately recoomend it to everyone. It doesnt increase the cabin noise with low rpm and while on the highway , but when you get on the gas and get gtoward the higher rpm range it gives it a great sound. A++ for the aem instake!

great decision man, youll love it, ill i want to do is hit the gas to hear the engine gasp for air through the intake, it makes me laugh everytime Im putting the comptech exhaust on this weekend if it arrives in time, i cant wait let me know if you have nay questions about the install. There is another good post in the forum about the tools and how to drain the coolant, it helped me out with that section. Im sure the blue one will look just as bad ass

One thing you guys that are thinking on doing this mod is not to drain the coolant, just have a sponge around for the few drops that will leak when you change the hoses, not enough to be concerned...BTW great job, I should have suggested this to you guys before...

yes, i agree. training the coolent was a waste of time and frustrating. skipping would have made the job 100% easier.

PUT THE COMPTECH EXHAUST WITH THE AEM INTAKE AND WATCH YOUR CAR TAKE OFF LIKE IT HAS NEVER BEFORE! You gotta team the exhaust and intake to get the full benefit....

You will Love it! Very easy install too. I took mine to the muffler shop as it was about 98 degrees out that day and it took them five minutes to take off and reinstall the new one. You can retain the original exhaust system without damaging at all and resell or just hang onto it.

How much are you guys paying for the Comptech exhaust? Does it make the car sound that much louder? One thing I don't want is for it to sound too loud! Also, if it only took them 5 minutes, how much did they charge you?

I was supposed to have the AEM Intake installed this week but something came up and I'm going to have to wait until next week (hopefully).

I got my AEM installed last night. Took me about an hour to an hour and a half to complete. I had already done all the hard work when I modified my stock airbox. However I did skip 1 part of the install. I left the factory coolant line and and just used a Dremel to cut off the nipples for the breather hose. So basically I just ran a new breather line. I will do the coolant mod some other time.

First impressions is that thing definitely adds power. I broke traction not off the line but during hard excelleration. Must say I am kinda impressed and the polished intake doesn't look so bad under the hood. Wish it was black though.

Sure...here ya go....

Although the Comptech decal is now gone and back is plain white with stock badging now. Just did the decal for a while to try to promote modding these cars locally. Seen a few since....but nobody with the exhaust too. (here locally)

I think they charged me $80 (dont pay somebody to do it....waste of money unless you have some to throw away - its that easy). As far as the sound....it will definately make it louder and sound more agressive. Can the neighbors hear me come and go now....when I tromp on it...yes....at idle....prob not unless they are already outside. As far as what I paid for the comptech exhaust.....$950 on ebay. Been working on a sound bite of exhaust....will keep you posted.

Does installing an AEM or Injen intake adversely affect fuel economy? Also, does installing an intake affect warranty? I'd hate for the Acura dealership blame any possible mechanical issues on the fact that I have an aftermarket intake.

A question often asked by many. #1 - There is a law that states they have to prove that the mod you did actually caused the problem in question. #2 - If fuel economy is what you are worried about....I would stay on the porch and keep away from these big dogs around here..."cause we aint talking fuel economy here!"

I feel your worry MaFreCoLa....but your gotta enjoy life some and not let the big corporate Acura guys sweat you! I think the key to this issue is a good relationship with your local Acura dealer. Of course...they will suggest that only something that they do is covered under warrantee, but I refer back to the first point on that. Personally, I have never had a problem - but I do try my best to keep in good with them for the most part. They cant exactly say that your transmission prob is due to an aftermarket intake or exhaust or something.....see my point? Most of the dealers will be interested in what you do if you do it right!
