after familiarizing myself with comptech's icebox design and working with the lexus motors, i am now starting to be AGAINST open element style filters, such as this thread is about.
i still have yet to see before/after dyno. before / after 1/4 time.
reasoning: the air filter intake area, needs a sort of pressurization. you want to maintain a good mount of sealed space yet have an unobstructed flow as well. having your filter completely open creates no kind of 'space' to hold the air. the air is just rushing by it. not to mention overexposure to water/dirt/bugs.
