So does an awd manual transmission even exist? Im planning on doing big things with my 05 TL including an m90 but thats besides the point. Ive looked and looked and camnot find a manual awd tranny. Do the transfer cases adapt to the 6mt? How does this work? Ill make it happen i just need some pointers to start

2010 to 2014 TL sh-awd came from the factory with optional 6mt. Sell your car and buy one of those.

Thats why the thread is called conversion lol.. Can you not use the 2010 trans on an older j? Everything else is pretty much interchangeable so I dont see why it wouldnt be possible?

The 4G TL is a complete clean sheet redesign, there are precious few interchangeable parts. For enough money anything can be done, but I'm guessing five grand wouldn't come close to being enough to perform this swap.

Isnt there a jseries-k series transmission adapter plate? If so, theoretically, would i be able to use the element drivetrain..? It seems pretty probable to me

I am helping out / providing a tiny bit of 'consulting' to a friend of mine in NY that is getting his 7g Accord converted to AWD by Don @ RPM Systems in NY. He's got a 7g Accord, and Don has done some fabricating to get the rear end of an 4g AWD TL onto the Accord. Up front there is a J37 with the AWD Manual transmission. I'm waiting to hear back about how the 30-spline front axle solution that I suggested to them works out.

It would be easier if you started off with an 8g Accord, or just got a 4g AWD TL.

But if you're planning on building your '05 TL, I've got stuff figured out with J-series FWD trans (as well as AWD) that not even Honda has been able to figure out. Wish I were kidding. I am currently building two FWD J trans that use a lot of parts that come from the AWD TL / FK8 trans. They're close-ratio 2-3-4-5-6, upgraded diameter mainshaft, LSD, one has a 3.9 final, other has a 4.11 final.

See now THAT is what I'm looking for! Some real ingenuity!! Definitely hyped up to see some results from that project. Is it a coupe or sedan?

Thats sooo sick . I had a coupe recently myself before I got this tl and man i hurt a lot of feelings, it only had a v2 ontake and spacers😂😂. Subarus were especially upset when I walked away from their turbo lol. I know my tl could ne even better as it is but i personally have always liked to stick out from the rest so to speak and also love the engineering behind making a project like this. Thinking outside the box!

The difference is the rear subframe. The 8g Accord, along with the 4g TL share the same rear subframe bolt pattern as all of the pilots, mdx, Ridgeline, etc etc, all the Honda vehicles that have AWD.

Your best bet is to get either an 8g Accord or a 4g TL.

The next time my local junkyard receives an 8g Accord MT, I'm hoping to get the pedal assembly, shifter assembly, clutch slave, center console piece.

But that's mainly because I want an 8g Accord Sedan V6 6MT.

I just pick where I put my passion and money differently, that's all.
I think it's cool that you guys are doing shit like this. I was actually
thinking about how cool it would be to have a FI and more than FWD.

even if you bolt a chevy transmission to a toyota motor and bolt it into your TL...
still a bolt on.

In that case, bolting a supercharger/turbo is a bolt on.

Unbolting your engine and transmission and putting in all aftermarket parts, reassembling and putting back into your TL is bolt on.

If you can make anything but a TL transmission bolt on to a TL without a single weld or hole drilled i'll eat this entire forum.

And yes, turbos/SCs are bolt ons. Which is why you see them as the main power adder on these forums and not build quality, newly redesigned cnc heads, billet blocks, block skirt reinforcements, custom camshafts, custom crankshafts, custom timing gears, custom transmission gears, application specific pistons and rods or any of the other things real car guys use to add power.

There's some cool facebook groups with all of that work being done, hope some of it trickles down to y'all before the next TL-S is released!

I appreciate someone going to that degree of detail to make a reliable powerhouse...how's that?
I admire Andy, GREATLY and I know he's doing some of what you mentioned AND the sc bolting on.

They arn’t doing extensive work, but it’s fun to watch Acura/Honda videos, particularly the Acura
TLS!

Will you be buying another one someday? Your attention to detail is impressive. A 3G TL deserves your love.

If your real serious about this swap, you need a 4G 6MT parts car.
