5AT to 6MT swap HELP!!

Hey fellas,

I am about to buy a 2005 6MT tranny w/o flywheel or clutch to swap for my 2008 5AT.

What potential swap issues am I looking at? The shift linkage im looking at is from a Type-S, would that matter? The clutch pedal im looking at is also form a type-s. would this matter aswell?

Any input is greatly appreciated as I want a 6MT TL!

I'm sorry to rain on your plans, but the manual transmission from a 2005 TL will NOT bolt up to a 2008 TL.

Skip the 6MT swap because you the bell housing won't work, like others have said.

Get it supercharged and see how you like it.

Hey Fellas, Im seriously considering converting my 5AT to 6MT this year. Yet I'm unable to find anyone that has done this on a 2007-2008.

Is this feasible?

Please chime in

Why don't you simply buy a car built from factory with the 6-Speed Manual and be done with it?

I'm not finding a single 6MT base 2007-2008. The Type-S 6MT is nearly nowhere to be found. I wont but a rustbucket from the eastcoast or midwest.

If you're serious, this one may be the best you'll find in the short term. It appears to be in Utah:

My 06 6MT has no rust on it. Built 45 minutes from me in marysville Ohio. It has spent all its life in Ohio and Indiana.

Sorry, I didnt mean to be so brash about that.

Have you been to the factory? I would love to see where our TLs came from.

There is no such a thing as a 2007 or 2008 base 6MT, either a 2004-2006 6MT or a 2007-2008 Type-S 6MT.

I know a guy with a NHPS 2008 Type-S 6 speed w/ 76k miles.

Unicorn of Unicorns. He is willing to let it go for $10.5k? It has very minor hail damage that can be PDRd. Was totaled due to the hail damage.

Should I attempt to buy it?

That's a pretty good price, even with the hail damage.

I got approved for it. Kind of nervous because it has a rebuilt title. But it didn't state in their criteria that it needs to be clean title. Only that it needs an inspection by their people.

The guy lives two hours from me. Going to see it Saturday if all goes well.

If you plan to keep the car forever then a rebuilt title means nothing. I plan on keeping mine so I wouldn't care if it had a rebuilt title.

Saving4aTL,

I admire your drive, but for the love of God.... Please start doing some fucking RESEARCH before you burn through cash!

One used supercharger with it's shaft welded (90% of the kit missing)
2nd used supercharger that's been spray painted (95% of the kit missing)
Ask's "Why can't I find 6MT parts for 07-08 Base" but buys parts that won't fit
Ready to buy a transmission without anything else needed to make the conversion work
Ready to scrap the idea and keep the automatic TL
Ready to buy a type-s 6MT
Ready to buy Rotrex Supercharger kit
Ready to go back to comptech kit
Ready to buy a rebuilt title car
Ready to not buy a rebuilt title car
Ready to go back to the 6MT conversion
Ready to go back to the automatic and just boost it
Ready to buy a clutch and flywheel
Ready to buy that Type-s 6MT

All of us here on Acurazine.

LOL! You got it spot on. I decided to not get that Salvaged 6MT type S. I got the loan and then read that they dont give loans on salvaged cars... Dam! cause I got a Hard pull on my credit report. The website didn't upfront that they don't give loans on salvage title. If anyone wants it, its in wonderful condition. I'll give you his number.

I installed the Type-S bumper and did the throttle body coolant bypass today. Sorry, I didnt get pics because I was changing the tranny oil in my Sister-in-laws boyfriends 1998 Dodge Durango. What a POS it is. Its leaking diff. oil, tranny oil, motor oil. The tranny oil was almost black. I'll take piccys tomorrow.

What a poor design that vehicle is. No tranny pan drain plug, so I was forced to pull the pan. No magnet in the pan to collect magnetic silt so it was all in the fluid. The pan was so difficult to remove due to the stabilizing bar not allowing access to the rear pan bolts. Also made it tough to remove it away from the vehicle.
Our Asian cars are Far superior in design.

I will do HFL delete tomorrow as well as 410cc RDX injectors. I bought all the dremel bits ill need to modify the injectors. Dom send me the starter base map for them so I can datalog them after install via Hondata.

Another alternative is to have your automatic upgraded by Level 10 and also get a higher stall torque converter. Probably be cheaper than a swap (unless you can handle all the labor yourself) and should handle the power.
