3G TL Intake Question

Hey Acurazine,

I am interested in purchasing an Intake for my TL. As I live in Canada, I am worried about snow, water, etc. Getting into a CAI. I assume my other option is a Short Ram, but I understand that may be worse for the engine (warm air), as even the OEM intake sits much lower.

So I have a few questions:

Is this correct about the short ram potentially gathering warmer air/ being worse for the engine?
Is it possible/good idea to use the OEM box or custom fab a plastic shroud to avoid potential water/snow, etc. if I go with a CAI?

All help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

You won't get no snow nor water in the filter because, where the filter sits. I had it in my accord and it was fine even though car washes that does the undercarriage.

I live in MN and I haven't had any problems with snow or water getting into the intake. You should be just fine having a CAI.

The horrors you are thinking about can only happen if your air filter is completely submerged. If that were to happen, you have bigger problems to worry about.

Hate me if you want but I have done A LOT of research on this.

eBay Pipe + K&N Filter is the way to go. Its cheaper than AEM and it gives the same gains.

You sir are like me, and believe FUNCTION over FORM is better. ALL the AEM or other intake comapnies is, are marketing and paying for the name.

You could literally go to home depot or whatever store, find tubing made out of the same material, and purchase a good $50 dollar K&N filter and make the same intake. You sir, are smart!

^ Pretty sure you need to take the front bumper off.

It's not that hard, just time consuming.

I have been thinking about going to go to a local shop and get a custom tube and put on an AEM/K+N cone. Didn't know people did these cost effective things on TLs lol.

You don't have to remove the front bumper .. I did mine without taking it off.

Don't know anything about the brand but a short ram = hot air intake. So you gain noise .. loose HP.

I just recently tackled my air intake and followed the directions and had no problem. But now that I'm driving it there seems to be a rattling noise coming from the front end. Directions said nothing about removing the inlet air tube so I left it there. I think this is the problem and wondering if anyone elce removed this part of system. It seemed kinda hard to remove so I just zip tide it the best I could. Any help thanks. Oh it's a 05 TL.
