07 TL Type S Exhaust

Hi all...question...Is there an aftermarket exhaust system that uses the factory tips that anyone knows of?
i DONT want obnoxiously loud just something a tiny bit more throaty but I really want to use the OE tips.
Thanks and have a safe holiday!

Go to exhaust shop
have them cut out the resonator and replace it with straight pipe

I agree. I had a shop remove my resonator and mid muffler, they replaced them with two straight pipes. Sounds great on acceleration, and a slight drone around 3,500 rpm.

I wonder if that's legal here in CA.

just as long as it's a good throaty sound not the annoying "V6 challenger or ecoboost mustang trying to sound like a V8" rattle trap annoying sound. Does it give you any more power ?

lol obviously I'm well aware of that I'm just hoping Acura Designed a better exhaust than Detroit. I want the pitch to go down not up. Does that make sense?

You'll either have to see how one sounds in person with the aforementioned mods or go with a proper aftermarket system. Hard to get a deeper tone only messing with the stock parts.

that's not how it works. lol

The americans had copied the japanese "higher" revving engines....
the J-series has been in production for over 2 decades.... in which it uses variable valve timing.

most recently, the Americans had copied this design. you see it with the mustang, camaro, and the dodge. all of them use a 3.6l-3.7l V6 with variable valve timing.

so, you see, a v6 with variable valve timing with peak power at 6K RPM will always sound like a tin can full of angry bees.

look at acura tl "stage" exhaust on youtube with stage being how many pieces you cut out and replace with different ones on stock exhaust. Lots of videos.

lol.
I like the look of stock mufflers too. daily my 07tls with v3 j-pipe from i forget where. it did nothing for power or sound. the resonator delete and bigger pipe from jpipe to stock mufflers sounds interesting. i have a welder too. so now im thinking about it more

Even with my $1500 aftermarket exhaust system, in the upper RPM range where we make the most power, it zings. "ZIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNG!"
I'll admit, at start up and idling around, it does have a deeper tone than stock. However, it will never sound like a V8. matter of fact, I think it's an ugly sound. but there's nothing that I can do to change it because of the engine's characteristics.

well, I could just buy a car that comes equipped with a V8

Precisely why I'm buying a separate project car for loud "hot boi" activities.

Tons of videos on youtube of people removing the mid muffler, but no videos of people removing the resonator while leaving the mid muffler on. I would say to remove one or the other, but please don’t remove both it sounds like ass. I ran with a stock exhaust with a mid muffler delete and a dynomax resonator for 3 years; that set up sounded like ass too. Also passed smog in CA.
Now for about about a year my setup is:
rv6 pcd, endless v2 j pipe & test pipe, 2.5” atlp quads with 22x4” magnaflow resonator + vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Sounds pretty good for a v6, no rasp and no highway drone

The last thing I want is my car to sound like ass, That's why I'm info gathering from this thread.

well chad, modifying the exhaust is experimental. you wont know how it will sound until you start chopping it up...
and if one doesnt like the sound, keep chopping!

lol you forgot to say "chop carefully". I'm trying to avoid my car sounds like one of those douche canoes in a V6 Camaro trying to make it sound like a V-8 And all it does is rattle a lot and piss off the neighbors. I believe that's a muffler delete when they do that. I'd go ask the kid up the street "Hey how did you get your Camaro so annoying sounding?" And then beat him with a baseball bat but then I probably wouldn't get an answer but Id get a lot more sleep.
I'm actually weighing the options of that last statement LOL hmm
But you see what I'm saying. I just want it to be 20% more throaty but 0% annoying.

Expect a fairly strong dose of drone with most aftermarket systems. You do get used to it, not everyone else will.

I've discovered I'll have to leave all the stock cats on and just do a resonated cat-back for it to not have any drone.

I know im late to this but your best bet is to get an intake which will make the car louder when you're deep in the throttle but silent when you're not. Then for the exhaust I would probably remove the resonator and replace it with a dynomax or vibrant resonator and then maybe remove the mid muffler. Completely removing the resonator will be louder but give you rasp. A j pipe with the 3rd cat delete is also a good way to pick up some power and a slight bit of noise. avoid the RV6 j pipe if you don't want rasp and I would stay away from the ATLP j pipe as it has a massive torque dip around 2-3k rpm. XLR8 v1 with a test pipe is your best option because you can always remove the test pipe and put the stock 3rd cat in if you need to for inspection. XLR8 also creates the most torque.
