xm radio signal problem, help!
xm radio signal problem, help!
Foro several months my xm would drop out from time to time. It kept getting so I finally took it in to the dealer. The first time they said they didn't see a problem. The second time they ordered and replaced the antenna. 1 day after getting the car back I am in the same boat. I drove in all the same areas with the loaner tl they gave me and the signal was flawless.
Has anyone had this happen? The sound it makes when it drops is a hiss type noise that lasts for a second or two. Sometimes it's so fast the "no signal" indicator does not flash on the navi. What else could be wrong here and what should I tell the dealer?

Interesting... Did the dealer only replace the antenna (the dome on the roof of the car), or did they also replace the XM receiver (which is located behind the lining on the right side of the trunk)?
If they didn't replace the receiver, I would ask them to replace that next.
They should be able to run some diagnostics on it.

Oh I did not know it was located there. I assumed it was just a chipset in the radio itself. To my knowledge they replaced only the dome on top of the car. Is there anything I can do to run the diagnostics myself?

You might be able to access XM diagnostics through the navi.
Put the keys in the car and turn it so the NAV turns on (dont need to start the engine). At the main screen of the navigation system (the disclaimer works), hold down the Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
Personally, I wouldn't touch it, since a mistake could break something. Take it back to the dealer and let them handle.
Here is an image of where the XM receiver is located.
