XM NavTraffic Problems

Well, I just purchased a new 2008 Acura TL and the dealer is trying to figure out why the NavTraffic is not being displayed. Has anyone else had trouble with NavTraffic? Is it even worth it? I live in the Houston area and would love to use it.

I know that when I test drove the car I saw the NavTraffic working. The XM Radio works great and XM has even sent a refresh to the radio several times and still no XM Traffic.

Luckly enough, my dealership gave me a loaner car to use for free.

I believe that the XM Nav traffic is an additional feature on top of the XM Radio. They charge an additional fee of ~$3 a month for NavTraffic. Is NavTraffic included in the 3-month XM trial as well?

yip, it is. I have a 08 and NavTraffic is included with the trial. I do know NavTraffic uses a separate satellite receiver separate from XM radio to pick up updates. Maybe theres a severed connection.

What map scale are you zoomed to? Traffic only displays over a narrow range. Try changing the zoom - you should see a vertical band next to the column of scales that shows which scales display traffic.

From one to five mile range. When you click one of the zoom buttons you will see the range too. You should get three free months with xm and traffic.

I'm not sure about Houston but it's pretty unreliable and always late. You might see areas where traffic is to be shown at 20MPH but running at 70MPH and vice versa. Accidents also take awhile to show up and are usually cleaned up by the time it makes it on to the navi.

I ran if or about 5 months and finally canceled the traffic option. I would say it's accurate and reliable about 20% of the time. Nowhere near good enough to base you route on.

Sorry to hear the NAV traffic is not panning out. However in Tampa It updates regularly and is trustworthy. It is an add on package you have to pay extra for. I think its worth it in my area. I own and 07 wdp type a with 30k behind the wheel. It works. confirmed.

Here is an update. My NavTraffic is working. The dealer had to perform some sort of system reset to the radio and now it is working.

Anyway, so far I'm loving what I see with NavTraffic here in the Houston area. Seems to be accurate so far. I will get to evaluate for next few months for free.

On another note, if you hit icons - all off, it will disable nav traffic. Make sure that you have the navtraffic icon enabled.

I'm considering whether to keep the Traffic addition to my XM subscription when my trial runs out.

I'm in Houston too, and you can pretty much guarantee when the roads will be yellow/red during rush hour commutes as well as certain intersections _always_ having the construction icon

i'm in San Francisco and i recently got an 08 TL as well. The traffic shows up as everyone has said for you to do, btu sometimes mine doesn't show as well. i've noticed a slight lag in certain areas but for the most part, it works. i don't think i'm going to keep the traffic because I can always just call 511 which has real time traffic updates.

My XM Traffic sucks. South Florida/West Palm is where i'm at. Xm only shows me construction signs or the ! ICON describing accidents. I wish it would warn me as I approach the accident. Now I have to place the cross pointer right in the middle of the warning sign to read the details. Also, I never get any average speed details. The Garmin Nav system in my AVIS rental had better info. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm curious and have a question. Can you tell the NAVI to calculate your route based on traffic conditions?
