LMAO, I must have an illegal navi disk version, the special version called "lets see how fast you can get a ticket", then try to tell the cop that your car told you to make the u-turn . I have an 04 tl, anyone else have this problem? I am driving up 202N, then all of a sudden it tells me to take a left turn in 800 feet! The left turn was "for offical use only", so I took the next exit to turn around.

I slowed down to 55mph, and just decided to pass it, im not taking any chances during rush hour, however it is a good thing I did do that because there was a cop sitting there too .

I can understand the navi telling you to make a u-turn, but for it to tell you to turn into the center median, and one that is for offical use only, that is completly insane

This is why you have to use your mind that God gave you to override the Navi. I have had this happen before, so you just have to use the noodle in your head.

I have a similar situation. If I use Navi to route to where my mother lives, it very specifically tells me to make a left through an intersection that has been clearly marked "DO NOT ENTER - DANGER - EXIT ONLY" for years. If I pass that left and go forward, it re-routes telling me to make a U-Turn.

Always pay attention to the street signs.

lol, who would have designed the navi to tell you to make a u-turn that is "for offical use only", on a crowded 3 + 3 lane highway.

Hence the disclaimer screen at startup.

If you find these kinds of errors, reporting them to the navigation folks (I forget the link, but it's listed around here) will (hopefully) mean they get fixed in future revisions of the database.

If I'm not mistaken, my navi has always said something like "If possible, make a legal U-Turn".

Key word is "legal".

At least if you ignore the NAVI, it eventually comes up with another route based on your location and the fact that you ignored its bad advice. Even then, it sometimes tries to send you back to the original route if you're close enough. (There are even settings on the menu for DETOUR and AVOID ROAD, though I hate to think you need to proof-read-out all the invalid official routes.)

This month's Road and Track (Dec 2006) had a story in the People Places and Things column about a NAV system in England which sends people down a steep road ending in a 100 ft drop. And last month, Yahoo news had a story about a motorist in Germany who drove off the road trying to follow the directions.

In a sense, you have to drive the route to see if the directions are truly valid. But if you know the route, you wouldn't need the NAVI.

Having said all this, it's still useful when you wind up someplace unfamiliar, and the guidance is convenient when it says the name of the street to look for. I was pretty amazed when it helped un-tangle the octopus where Rts 80, 46 and 23 all converge.

Maybe they're trying to test us, to see if we really read the warning screen that comes up for 15 seconds. Kind of gives new meaning to the term Computer Crash.

it didnt say "if possible", it stated to make the turn like it was legal. I could understand if it was a small road, but it was a major highway. V

I think one has to mentally insert the "if possible" into everything it suggests. For example, it could tell you to go straight down a road that just washed out in the latest storm as it has absolutely no way of knowing that road is gone. The route guidance is merely suggestions, not commands.

True. I should've said, "Hence the disclaimer screen on startup that we've all disabled."
