Which wire is hot when the car is off and off when the car is on?
Hey there,
A fellow member and I are in the search of a wire that is hot when the car is turned off, but off when the car is turned on.
Reason for is to install shock sensors to the OEM factory alarm.
I can imagine if we wire it straight to a constant 12v source, and the car gets driven, the sensor would bring up the open door indicator because it would think the door is open, to trip the alarm, but as we all know, when you're driving, the alarm is off so all that will happen is the open door icon will show on the MID while driving.
OR, if someone has a better idea, such as a relay schematic or something, please share!
As you know, I'm not the electrician type of guy lol
I'll also be making a DIY, and as always, credit will be given out.
Thanks!

I tried this once before i got my alarm. The Dei shock sensors i bought would not open long enough to trigger the alarm... I'd check that first before going in all the way... i still have the ones i bought

Only test wired.. really dont remember but the output ground wasn't enough to trigger the alarm so i dropped it.. Do you already have the sensor? if so show me the schematic and i'll make something up for you to test then eventually wire up permanently if it works.

Gonna pick up 2 of them!
One on each side
Cheers!
I heard someone used the radio security wire for the positive from the sensor.
Supposedly it turns on when the car is off (which is what I need).
If only I could pony up to get a real security system like yours lol

I KNEW there had to be a relay solution lol
And that would allow me to have the sensor power on only when the car is off and when the car is on, have the sensor turn off?
How would I wire things now? lol
Total relay noob.
If only there was a wire that was hot when the car is off and off when the car is on, I wouldn't need a relay and just wire the sensor's positive power to that wire lol
Appreciate every single tip buddy!
Credits to you in the soon to come diy.

You could wire a relay so that the sensor hot wire is on the NC terminals. Then you can have the coil energize when the ignition is on.
e.g. pin 85 --> ground, pin 86 --> ignition, pin 87a --> +12v, pin 30 --> sensor +12v
Better yet, save up for an alarm, and you can use these sensors.

What relay should I buy?
I'm a total relay noob.
I might just run a wire to the hood pin... sound easier lol

Thanks.
Which method is "better"?
Tapping into the hood switch or using a relay?
