Will this work? iSimple Gateway
Hello all
Will this work for a 2006 acura TL and is it good? The car has no aux input so I would like to add this to put an aux in.

I looked into the iSimple too. Then I went to a local mobile electronics installer and they told me about an FM modulator you can use instead which is what I went with.
Basically they installed a power switch hidden well inside the cup holder of the center console. When I switch it on I can play my iPod or any mobile device through an FM station when the audio source is plugged into the headphone jack the audio guys installed too. The advantage is that it works through the headphone plug which is universal instead of device specific plugs. Also, this leaves my XM button alone because I still listen to that too. Finally, the FM modulator was cheaper than the iSimple too.
It's been a while since I had it installed so I don't have a manufacturer, model number or exact cost. But it's been working well and I'd suggest looking into it. But like said above, if you go to the Audio section of the 3G garage you'll see people are pretty happy with the iSimple too.

To clarify further, (and I apologize if I'm insulting anyone's intelligence but I didn't even know about this product) an FM modulator is different from an FM transmitter.
A transmitter usually powers through a cigarette lighter and broadcasts an FM signal which your radio picks up. This is a lower quality audio broadcast.
The modulator actually plugs into the rear of the radio where the FM antenna plugs in. This means the modulator totally overrides any over the air FM broadcasts because the modulator feeds right into the FM antenna which is also much better audio quality than an FM transmitter.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I don't know if this is the exact one I have, but this is what I'm talking about above:
I'm actually surprised a stereo installer would recommend an FM modulator vs. a regular iPod interface like an iSimple, USA Spec, or Grom. How is the sound quality with the FM modulator?
I've got that iSimple Gateway hooked up in my car. It's perfect!
I too am surprised that a shop would recommend installing a FM modulator over the iSimple system, but I'm guessing you said to them that you want to keep your XM and that was an unknown for the shop. The iSimple Gateway will provide better sound quality than the FM modulator.
The iSimple comes with both a regular headphone jack input, and an iPod 30pin input. I use a 30pin to thunderbolt adapter for my iPhone, and the steering wheel controls/song information display all work flawlessly. When installed, you will press the XM button and use the right side dial to select between XM/iPod/Aux1/Aux2. XM is left intact - this is simply an add on.

Believe it or not, but FM modulators have come a long way and have improved in quality.
However, nothing beats a wired connection.
Not sure why the installer would recommend. Maybe this one is from the future?
I also just got that ISimple unit installed in my '06. I had them install a female 3.5mm connector in the deep well under the armrest. From there, I just use a short cable to connect from my Android phone's headphone jack to that connector. I select a couple of buttons on the stereo unit to engage it and out the music comes. Way cool.
No it does not come with a switch. You need to follow this link to reset it. Www.pac-audio.com/reset to the pdf that explains how to reset it.
I installed the iSimple ISHD571 in a 2004 TL without NAV. Had the iPod mini hooked up to it and the iPod would not turn off or auto-pause when the engine was turned off - even after a few minutes. I'm not sure why. I've seen a few people mention this in the past about the iSimple although nobody has said it really drained their battery much. Anyway, I was still worried about it draining the battery, so it came out and a different brand went in (USASPEC).
Does yours turn off when the car is off?

Uh, no. If anything, they've gotten worse because the FCC limits broadcast strength on them now.
Hey guys, I've been using the Isimple Gateway for a good 3 years now and it's been working perfectly up until I upgraded my iphone from the 4 to the 5s. I bought the lightning to 30pin adapter and now my steering wheel controls won't work and neither does my car recognize my iphone. It still charges my phone though. Any thoughts guys? I went to BestBuy where I got it installed a couple years ago, and the tech there said "oh, that's been a common issue" and said I was pretty much "shit outta luck". Is he right?
