Wierd problem with Audio/voice system in Acura TL 2006

Mine is a Acura TL 2006 with Navigation

I added a new address to the Acura Phone book (via the voice commands). After adding a new phone number to the address book, the Car had all sorts of weird problems.

The CDs or DVD-Audio disks would no longer play. Only the radio works (did not try the cassette as i don't have one and never use it). If i try to switch from playing radio to try to play the Disk the entire audio including the voice command/control buttons and the voice prompts for the navigation would not work!! But if i turn off the engine and restart it back, the radio, voice command buttons and the voice prompts for Navigation work fine but still cannot play the disks.

Had this problem yesterday. I was able to remove/insert/skip go from one disk to the other (still without playing the disk). But today, i cannot remove/insert/skip the disk anymore!!

Anyone had this problem before? Any suggestions?

Thumbs down

Disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and plugged it back. After entering the Nav code and Radio Code, i was able to insert/eject the disk. But still the problems persist!!

Called the dealer. They wont repair it but can remove the part and send it to Acura. But since i am out of warranty, they would charge $400 just to remove and send the part to Acura. Once the part is repaired by Acura they will send it back with additional charge. So, i am looking at atleast $1500 plus (as per the service center at the dealer) and also without a car for a the duration of repair (which means additional for car rental)!!

Any other suggestions???

it does sound like the cd/dvd drive went bad.

I've seen some on ebay.
you can easily take out the old radio and put in one from ebay.

Dropped off the car at another Acura dealer for diagnostics. Will update once i hear from them

Do you guys think getting an Ipod integration is better option rather than replacing the entire audio system?

Unhappy

OK. Got the response from the dealer that it is the RADIO/AUDIO unit!! They removed my radio and tested with another one and worked fine...

So, i have 3 options now:
1. Buy a new Audio unit for $1500
2. Have the defect unit sent to manufacturer and repair it - $450 to $550
3. Buy an used/new Acura OEM audio on ebay etc

Can someone tell me where can i buy an OEM acura audio for my 2006 TL with Nav for a descent price?

What was the final outcome of this issue? I have an Acura TL 2006 and the stereo only works intermittently so I would greatly appreciate any guidance and suggestions!

The outcome was a defective stereo unit.

You can find used ones for pretty cheap.
