What's up with my CD player?

I just bought an 04 TL and it does not play a CD. It takes in the CD's (for example 2) but never plays them. How do you push play or advance to next song? Sometimes the whole radio just cuts out and will not come on unless I turn off the car and power it back on. Any ideas, thanks!!

Same thing happened to me. Your CD unit has just died. You need to buy a new one, that's the only solution.

You have an 04 TL, so be careful which year the replacement head unit comes from. If your car has factory navigation in it, you need to buy an 04 TL head unit or the navigation and HFL system won't work anymore. Alpine changed the wiring after 2004 so the sound will cut out if it's about to tell you to turn right or whatever, but no voice goes to your speakers.

I have an 05 head unit in mine because I value CD's more than the voice prompts, but until I get an 04 I won't be able to both listen to CDs and have my navigation work 100%. In a way I kinda hope you don't have navigation so you don't have to go through that trouble like I did.

The only sure-fire way to get the right year head unit is to buy it from the dealer, but they will charge you at least $400 for it, not to mention labor. Installing it is easy, so don't waste money paying someone else to do it for you.

If you're lucky enough to find one on the street, you will save some money...I bought my new head unit for $250.

easiest way to identify an 04 HU is to look at the cassette player door, if ACURA is written in VERY large letters, then it's for an 04. Also there should not be an MP3/WMA logo on it as those are on the 2007-2008 units.

I don't have the Nav. System, will a 07-08 unit work? It would be nice to play MP3's.

I don't see why not, seeing as how you don't have to mess with the navigation wiring (which is the only real issue).

Then again, there are people here that probably know more about that kind of integration better than me.
