i have the 8500, i call it my 2mile security blanket...the only thing i dont like about it is the lazer signal sounds like an oldschool phone the first time it went off it scared the shi- out of me, still the most commen used radar the x and ka band...let me tell you when it goes off i have plenty of time to slow down...the best thing though is not many false alarms, when it goes off there is usually the man close by
jjay slxsixsd nav 18"rims 15% tine ect ect

Question: if you use two (2) different radar detectors together in the car will you have "increased" security coverage? Or will they work "against" each other causing "decrease" in security coverage?

I don't remove mine...even in the hot sun because when you shut the car off it also shuts off. I do however put a sunshade over it because it's mounted in the middle-bottom of the windshield. By the way, you could poll the folks...seems to be the thing to do these days.

I have the Escort Solo 2 with the external power cord option. Works well, hasn't missed a trap and no hard wiring required. Still on the first set of batteries after 6 months.

i wish i had that type of money for the Solo ...and for the poll i'm new to the board so dont kno exactly what to do...this seems fine.
For the escort tho my only concern is for it to be stolen ...meaning they will break into my TL thats why i want to kno if its easy to detach and put in the glove compartment or something...do those air suckers last or leave any marks?

i have the valentine 1 and it is the best of all i have owned. If you are getting to many false alarms then you need to adjust it properly. It has 3 attenuation levels. I have mine on the least sensitive and it gives more than ample warning. read their website. you will be impressed. It can be upgraded for a nominal fee.

I use a V1. Got it 5 1/2 years ago. Not sure what the problem is with your friend's unit causing it to give false alarms since it's not a problem with mine. Perhaps, he's running it in all-bogey mode. If so, he should switch to full-logic or partial logic mode to allow the V1 to filter out what it determines are false readings.

I've had two friends buy Valentine's after doing side-by-side comparison's of their previous units against mine. One had an Escort Solo which had horrible range. The other was an older Bel model which picked up so many false signals it was essentially worthless. I've read the Solo performance is much better when used with a power cord and I've got to believe the Bel product has improved over the past few years.

Have the V1. Always reliable. A little more expesive, but it takes just one ticket to make up for the difference (not to mention insurance rates). Plus having it hard wired, you don't ever have to worry about taking it down when your out of the car, etc. Worth the price difference right there.

I use my instinct. I've driven these roads around here for over 10 years. You start to see a pattern. I can use 250 dollars somewhere else.

Excellent point mobilezen. If you just pay attention to where you are and what you've seen before, should take care of about 95% of threats out there (ie. N. bound I-35 just North of downtown, Tollway N. of Frankford, 114 W. just off I-35). It's just those unexpected little surprises that sting!

I just put it in the carrying case and it fits perfectly in the driver's door pocket. They give extra attachments for the window but I am still on my first set. No marks left and it fits perfectly along the tint line on the front windshield. There is a one button release so the window attachment stays and you just slide it on. I can also use the power cord but why bother as its more convenient without any wires. Besides I can take it to another car really easily.

I have an 8500 and a V1. Both are excellent products. The 8500's display is more programmable. Overall, I like the V1 better and use it in the TL. It's expensive, there's no such thing as bullet proof protection, but it has more than paid for itself in no-doubt-about-it saves. The arrows are not just a gimmick. Visual confirmation is a big help, and the arrows are definitely an accurate and useful tool for locating the cop.
