Want Cleaner Bass?
Want Cleaner Bass?
Although I love the stock stereo, I believe its not performing up to par to what it should have stock. Two things mainly. One is the bass could be a bit richer, and two, there are vibration noises at a certain frequency in the front components.
As far as the bass issues, if you are not looking for insane bass, but rather just a slight improvment, this could be the solution for you. I ordered 40 square feet of sound damping (www.edesignaudio.com), same thing as dynomat or any other but better value and also a lot more stickier.
What I did was I undid the top lining inside the trunk, the panel where the subwoofer and the rear speakers sit. Then you will see a 2-layer aluminum chassis where you can see the magnet of the woofer. I put damping all around, inside and outside of the 2-layers, but not on the woofer or magnet. To say the least, it was a lot of deadening. Once your down, use a heatgun and heat it up to make sure its sticky and conforming to the curves of the chassis.
The results are not mind blowing, but its a huge improvement. The bass is a lot clearer, and crisper. It also sounds very rich after the deadening. I actually had to turn down the bass setting by a notch because it started to rattle something on a certain song, where it never did before. It was just a tiny, inaudible rattle, which I only heard because the car was off and there were no vocals.
Next will be the doors. I ordered a different type of deadening for that. I ordered a foam-type damping material because that will hopefuly eliminate the higher frequency nuisances.
Total cost for both were about 50-60 I believe. Enough for both front doors, and the rear subwoofer deck area.

Sorry, I meant to say I used 10 square feet of the eDead V.1,
and 20 square feet of the eDead v4 teklite. I dont have any pics, but it's very simple.
Pretty much sticking thick tape onto the metal chassis of the car around the woofer to reduce vibration and some flex.

Sorry, I didnt really feel like it was necessary when I was doing the install. Plus I cut my damn pinky trying to cut the deadning so it was gushing all over the place. But here is a link that's pretty easy to follow. Not for the TL, but it's basically the same concept. I will try to get pics once I do the front doors.

Put on some of the remaining sound deadning around the front speakers, and also the foam matt on the door panels. Wow what a night and day difference. Virtually no rattles from any song. Huge midbass increase, and also a big increase in loudness overall. Treble and sharpness has also increased a whole lot.
Only problem i had was that I placed too much foam matt onto the panels and couldnt fit the panel back onto the door, so I had to remove a layer or two and try again.

I just bought all new infinity speakers for my o4 TL and I'm wondering If I'm gonna have any problems with the swap. I hear the TL's run on a 2ohm load? Also do I have to remove the hole panel or does the grill pop right off. Please help.
