Bluetooth Phones by Verizon

Just got back in from looking at phones at Verizon. I asked to see all the Bluetooth enabled phones they carry. I am now with Sprint but do not like any of the ones they offer. The salesman told me that Verizon is disabling a lot of the Bluetooth features due to the fact that they can be hacked into. Just bringing it up to everyone here. Kind of bummed out now as I have an 06 TL and my daughter has an 04 TL with Bluetooth that may not be able to be used and a DVD audio system I am having a hard time finding new music for. What gives? I see that these features are being offered in more and more vehicles so I am a bit confused. Hope someone on here may be able to find out more!!!!

I think the salesman you talked to was smoking the drapes.

While VZ has done some nefarious things with their phones, such as disabling dial up networking in Bluetooth so that you can't use the phone as a modem unless you do it on their network, my contacts tell me they have no intention of disabling BT. I worked there for 26 years and most of my contacts are high enough up that I usually get the straight poop.

Just from a competitive perspective, they would have to keep Blutooth. What will happen when states begin to outlaw cell phones without a headset or HFL? That is coming sooner or later.

I'd call or visit again and talk to a manager or director if you can't get a straight answer.

BTW, I have a Treo 700W from VZ and love it. It paired on the first attempt with my 06TL, and I get great reception and transmission.

Good luck,

jfk

I agree with JFK. Yes, Verizon is a bloodsucking company that disables PARTS of the free Bluetooth technology so that you have to PAY them to send files, pics, ringtones, and dial-up networking using thier "IN" service..(Kinda like a resturant charging you to use thier air)...the basic featues work and the phones pair with the car. You can talk handsfree with no problem. The chatter on this oart of the site tells of which phones just pair better than others....so far the current E815 from Verizon seems to be the best/least problems.

U might want to read my recent thread "DVD-Audio: A Perspective", where I discuss the technical issues of hi-rez formasts like DVD-A, and offer some framework around the pitiful sales of DVD-A. Short version: DVD-A (and SACD) seem to be "answers to the question nobody asked".

I have 4-5 copies of some of the same music from Columbia:

Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue":

CD
CD enhanced
CD w. "Super Bit Mapping"
CD remixed
SACD

Think of the revenue generating opportunity of taking old infrastructure, a few bucks to remix and/or re-package, and selling it over and over again. It is like selling heroin or methamphetamine. After the first few hits.......

I paired my new Motorola E815 up yesterday and tested it. Works perfectly for both incoming and outgoing calls.

I have the NOKIA 6256i and it works great. Admit it's not the best looking phone but has many great features. Have yet to have an issue with it linking in/to my 04TL. This phone can currently only be purchased at Best Buy or off the internet. No other Verizon store/retail carry it. I have had mine for two months without a hitch.

At the time it only cost me $48.99 after all "in-store" rebates and $30 mail in BestBuy rebate.

Cheers
