Sorry no picture as I have sold my TL 2 weeks ago and got an new 2007 MDX Elite.

A nice place I have found and used for over 6 months is the area between the driver's sunvisor and the A pillar, right behind the tinted area. My STI driver worked perfectly even for laser.

Best regards from somewhere north of Montreal

frenchnew, in my set up, the only way to will be able to see it if they search my car, you can't see it from outside or sideways.

Plus if it is illegal in your state to have radar detector, then regardless of where you are hiding your radar detector, if it's on, they will know, as cops have detectors against such devices...

You can also embed K40 or similar radar/laser jammers that no one will see. The problem with V1 is that the unit itself you can't hide, as the visibility factor plays a major role in V1's performance, and it needs to be positioned as high as possible to maximize the forward and backward scan.

If you come up with something cool, let us know

Best Regards

You do not have to tell me that radar detector are illegal in Quebec, I am fully versed on that aspect of the law!

Second, not all radar detectors can be detected by police Radar Detector's Detector. The Beltronic STI Driver can't be detected.

For the V1, you loose laser detection if you hide it.

For laser, I use a jammer which is better than a detector.

The jammer is not cheap (Over $800 with 2 heads) but it already save me over $1,000 in speeding fines alone plus what ever I would save on insurance cost and my driver's permit renewall.

PS - I have been playing the cat & mouse game with radar since 1977.

What's your reason for bad attitude? Re-read my post, and reply with a thank you instead...

I don't care about Quebec, and I have not mentioned anything in particular but in general...Get some fresh air before you post, so you don't offend people who are trying to help you.

(and this is coming from a New Yorker, yeah, we are the rudest alright, lol)

Wow, really? I thought only jammers could be detected?

ballin, you live in Virginia, you should have more info on this than me....

My cops friends says that the gadget they use in VA that picks up the scans from the radar detector...I would assume it's true?? Plus I believe V1 shots off in such cases...

I think it's embedded with the POP function..http://www.valentine1.com/Moreinfo/pdf/POP_pg26.pdf...

Hopefully someone with a better knowledge on this topics can chime in....

My V1 paid for itself, no joke, dozens of times.

"An RDD is a device used by police in areas where radar detectors are declared illegal.

Radar detectors are built around a superheterodyne receiver, which has a local oscillator that radiates slightly. It is therefore possible to build a radar-detector detector, which detects such emissions (usually the frequency of the radar type being detected, plus about 10 MHz for the intermediate frequency). Some police radar guns are equipped with such a device."

Ugh...damn..maybe I should take mine out

The place on the windshield is the topmost left corner, right behind the blue tint.

I never got caught with the V1 for the reason that I quit using it the day that the "Sureté Des Tickets" purchase their first Radar Detector Detector and bought a Beltronic STI Driver which can't be detected by RDD.

The V1 is a very good detector but being detectable ($1,000 fine in Quebec) plus the lost of a $500 Detector make it for a very expensive adventure that I do not want to experience.

I am hoping that Mike Valentine quit procrastinating and update the V1 to a non-detectable Radar Detector. On Valentine1 site they have been giving excuses of not being able to get the proper equipment for devellopment (The Radar DEtector Detector) which is lame for an excuse as there are several individual willing to lease such equipemnt in the USA.

Before I read your post, I was really into buying the V1 but now that I know that the "Surete de merde du Quebec" has his own radar detector, I'll think about it.

I wanted to buy this cause I make a lot of trips MTL -- Quebec at night, so its me and the HIGHWAY. I cannot stay at 120km the hole trip or Im bored and fall asleep (If you know what I mean). I guess I'll have to choose...THANKS A LOT BUDDY!!

Guys,

You should write Mike Valentine a letter! You are right its about time he updated the V1...

I'll sign on the dotted line, let's do it

You can always try using those cb radio that pick up highway patrol

Or Mike should finally invent a radar that can be fully hidden, in the license plate area (front/rear), this way even if you do get pulled over, the cops will never find the radar

Nightime - really bad to get caught on radar with low traffic condition.

Cops will put their Radar on Standby and will activate it once you get into the Radar range - Instant-ON. There is no detector in the world that will protect you against that type of speedtrap and depending on how you will react, if you nail on the brakes, you might as well put a lighted sign on top of your roof saying that you have a radar detector.

If the cops suspect you have a detector and you are not cooperating, they will put you under arrest for impeding their work and before they put you in a holding cell, will frisk you (If you put the detector on you, it's gone). Then they can search your car at will for a detector. I have seen a friend's Volvo after it had been search for a detector.... UGLY! ... every seat surface was torned (the upper portion) the roof liner was destroyed plus soem more damages to the dashboard.

THey had an independant garage search for the detector @ $55 / hr ($190)which he had to pay, they found the detector ($1,000 Fine) plus over $4,000 to have the his car interior's restored. - So be Careful and trained yourself not to go for the brake pedal as soon as the detector goes off - It's better to be ticketted for speeding and keep your equipment to fight another day.

I have seen the SQ on Hwy 15 North a night using their darkest unmarked vehicle parked on grass below a U-Turn - Not even the whole windshield is seen from the Hwy - just enough to let the radar get it's customers.

Once equipped with a detector you can't rely on it exclusively to speed or you will get caught.

Laser is another beast and Radar Detectors offers little if not no advance notice.

The only line of defence against Laser is a jammer unit - do a search for Laser Pro Park. THey work well - I saved myself from a 150 KM/H speeding fine last September on Hwy 401 near Belleville - Ontario.

I am not an expert but have installed Radar Detectors in the late 1970 for a living and have been using them since.

Good suggestion and I hope it works as I have a 15 years old V1 at home waiting for the upgrade.

I have communicated with Valentine several times to no avail, I guest they still make enough money not to be bothered with it.

Best of luck to you all in having Valentine finally get off their fat A#@.

There are 2 thing to be aware,

Valentine is $399 plus $39 if you need the concealed display.

Beltronics STI Driver is $499 and includes the concealed display and remote amplified speaker for $499.

Valentine will not ship to Quebec or anywhere Radar Detectors are illegal.

Same thing for Radar Buster

The Valentine will be detected, see the following website;
http://www.guysoflidar.com/

The Beltronic STI Driver is not detectable.

The Valentine does offer features not available on any other detector like the radar locator feature.

Sorry to bring this up again...

Does the V1 work well if it is above the AS1 line and I have the tint strip? I want to place it here because you can't see it from outside. Cops can't see it and neither can theifs!

Awesome tut by the way. Gonna do this tonight.

i used the power window fuse--an added benefit i found later was that i could cut the power to the V1 by hitting the window lockout switch--nice!

i put the ground behind the bracket for the hood release

took about 20-25 min taking my time.

So instead of connecting it to the ciggarette lighter, you connected it to the window power fuse? So every time you hit the window lock button it powers the V1? Is this correct?

on the radar forums, people have retrofitted their v1 to be undetectable just like the STI. Its expensive though, but some v1 lovers get what they want and can't part from their V1, so they end up paying the price.

I couldn't see myself doing this so i went ahead and got the STI, even though radar detectors are legal in California.

I then ran an extra telephone wire across the underside of the dash, drill a small hole in the bottom cubby pocket, and installed the V1 remote display here:

It's worked out really well. It's secured to the underside of the door (via 3m tape), so it rotates as you close the door.

Out of sight out of mind, at least to the LE officer in your window.

I really like how you setup the V1 into the cubby. I was wondering if you can do a write up on how you manage to place the V1 and where you got the power. Did you get the power from the fuse as well, if so how did you get the wires to the fuse? By the way does the V1 detects better in the cubby or is it better if someone place in in the windshield? Thank you.

^ Thats just the concealed display. You still need to place the actual detector on your windshield.

What do you mean when you said "You still need to place the actual detector on your windshield." What does the actual detector looks like?

Great write up! I have been wanting to do this for years and never thought it was so easy! Just got finished and it is just as pictured/described. VERY straight forward. It would be so nice if all DIYs were this straight forward with the pictures as well as the words to follow.
Now I can actually put something in as well as finally close the bottom cubby door!

if you add-a-circuit you are not splicing into the hot wire for window lock, but creating it's own line. so, the answer is no.

Even tough Kennedy's setup is nice, and it is really hidden, to me it defeats the whole purpose of the reading the conceal display easier.

I always believed when installing an interior electric mod, you should always have a very easy access to it without being distracted from the road.

You mean powering it up? of course, you can do this to any car accessory.

Use a stable hot source, tap into it..that's it.....

Such things I would connect to an Auxiliary source. Or directly to a battery with a switch, as they are more demanding than a V1.

EEEWWW!!! That means I would have to run the wire outside of the cab...or worse DRILL. That doesn't apeal to me. I think I would just stick with plugging it up...

^ No lol....

You can connect it just as you see the V1 connected... no problems there.... I just haven't checked the flow if it is constant or not, but it should be. Radar will work with fluctuating current, but your portable navi may not like it

And you don't have to drill anything, every jap cars comes with holes to inside the engine bay....look above your pedals...you'll see it. They are plucked with rubber caps.

It's no tougher to see than looking at the radio... I understand your point, it would be ideal to integrate the remote into your gauge display...

But screw the mod work it would take to do that...

It's very effective where it sits. When that arrow lights up, day or night, it gets your attention.

No tickets yet.
