USASPEC PA15-HON3 IPOD Adapter issue

I installed the PA15-HON3 into my '06 TL with NAV and XM SAT (No Live Traffic). It does work as advertised. However, now my Nav screen will reboot periodically while I'm driving! I installed the adapter myself (I have over 10 years experience with mobile electronics) so I know it's not an install problem. I have contacted USASPEC about the problem and am waiting on a reply. Anyone else out there having the same problem?

I actually have the same problem with the same unit in an 06' TL. In addition, it some times takes very long before my radio powers on! Did you here any thing back from the manufacturer yet?

usaspec PA15-HON 3 issues

I actually called USASPEC. They said they have a few people with this problem and that they are working on it. They are suppose to get back to me in a few days.

Let me know when they do because my past 4 emails to USASpec have gone unanswered. I'm still having the issue on a daily basis. Thanks for the help on this!!

I'm having the same issue with my NEO unit. They sent me a new unit but it does the same thing. Support indicated that I'm the only one with this problem. Good to know I'm not the only one (well actually, it's not good).

I hope you guys get the problem fixed, but can you answer a question I have about the HON3.... I have an 05TL navi w/o traffic and was wondering if the HON3 attaches to the XM unit in the trunk, or does it still need to be connected behind the headunit. I've searched around, but all I can find is info on the USA SPEC ACU XL which ideally connects in the trunk.

pa15-hon3

I have the same problem with my 06TL. The Navi reboots and sometimes when I turn off the radio, I have to push the power button a few time before it comes back on. I haven't called USA SPEC yet, but I'm going to because they need to know what the problems are.

Hello,
I have a 2006 TL with NAV and just installed the PA15-HON3 and I'm getting the NAV rebooting problem also. Any update on a fix?

Hopefully a firmware update can take care of of it. The music from the IPOD never stopped while the NAV rebooted.

It appears to be an issue with the 06 model year only?

Crutchfield replaced mine and the new one is working much better. The new one rebooted a couple of times. The old one got to the point where it died completely and XM radio would not work at all. I haven't had a reboot in a while and any time I get out of the car, I switch to some other input or I turn the radio off completely. Dont know if that really helps its been working for me....

What was the issue with the HON3 when connecting to an 06? Were the units defective? I am about to purchase one, but want to make sure there still aren't issues before doing so. TIA

I can vouch that the '06 still has issues. Mine are that the navi controls will occasionally freeze up (buttons are unresponsive) and eventually reboot while the iPod is playing. I haven't figured out how to replicate it. Oddly, the radio controls on the steering wheel work fine while this is happening. I contacted tech support at USA Spec, who acknowledged the issue and said they hope to have a solution "real soon".

darn...mabye I should go with the previous version PA11 HON2 or the PA15Hon2 and live with not having the supported text.

I have a 2005 TL with the HON3. I have had the same rebooting issue. I have had it for about 6 months and its happened probably about 4 times. It doesnt happen frequent enough to do anything right now, but if there is a solution to it, I would really like to know.

Hey all,

I have a 06 TL with Navi as well and I am having the same issue where the system will reboot. What's happening now is that it reboots my iTouch at a more frequent rate. All the connections are secured. I notice though that the music playing but then it's not really being charged, then it'll reboot and show that charging icon again and play music. It's very annoying.

is there a workaround fix for this or i have to contact USA aspec

I have bought and installed this part...http://pac-audio.com/productDetails....&CategoryID=22
It works very well, you can pick it up on ebay from time to time for just over $100. I didn't even take the stereo out to install it but I do have small hands. I believe pac audio actually manufacturers for most of the other companies mentioned here. If you have any question just email me at atom_strange@hotmail.com as I am not here very often.

This ipod controller allows you to scroll through each artist, select the artist, select the album and select the song from the stock controls. It puts the text on the clock screen and navi screen. It also allows you to track foward and backwards from the steering wheel. It is the best solution I have ever seen. The dealership techs even marveled at it as their musiclink was complete junk.

installed the PA15-HON3 a couple of days ago, having this same issue. I noticed that mostly this has occured with the 06 model, but I have an 04 w/ Navi and am having it too. Hasnt bothered me enough to dislike the product. the good definately outweighs the bad imo. I have emailed USAspec tech support too, hoping to have a fix before I really need to use the Navi.

Just got off the phone with USAspec and they are sending me a new device with "updated" software. Hopefully this will solve the issue.

I spoke with Joe in tech support (626-336-3836) and he seemed well aware of the issue and was more than willing to accomodate me. Considering I purchased the adapter last week from Crutchfield, im not sure why retailers are still selling a faulty product.

Definetly worth the phone call.

06SilverBlackGutTL,

Do you have any update for us? Did the "updated" version correct the problem so far?

Thanks in advance,

I purchased mine fairly recently, and while I did have the issue for the first week or so after installing...it appears as though the problem has dissapeared?
Maybe I'm confusing it with my previous HON2..

In any case, I've had it in for about two months now with no issues at all.

Does anyone on here have text support without XM?

New module, same behavior

I got in touch with USASpec's tech support in October about the reset and talked to a technician who said they had a fix which had worked in all but 20 TLs he knew of. We swapped my old one out but, while it doesn't reset as frequently, the new one still isn't quite right. They asked for my personal info to keep me informed if they should get another fix.

It's still out there. USASpec has been good about trying to help address it, but mine (replaced once) still reboots occasionally.

I just ordered it yesterday through amazon, not from the actual USA spec website, do you think they would still help me out even if I have problems with it? I mean it is their product after all.

Yes, they would most likely help. I ordered mine through an Amazon storefront but USASpec has been as helpful and responsive as possible (short of resolving the issue, obviously).

Are you still able to use the ipod from your iphone to select songs and such? cuz my just goes into a white screen and says ipod accessory is connected and I can't do anything ipod related on the iphone. I can change songs and stuff using my car controls but not my iphone. Is this normal? I thought you are able to use the iphone's ipod as well?

IT looks like there is no plan to fix this issue guys, Here is what my email to the tech dept said.

Hello Ryan We do understand that our interface will reboot the navigation in some Acura vehicles. Unfortunately we do not have a solution for this. Thanks
Then i asked if they are working on a fix and the reply was:

Hello Ryan

Unfortunately there does not seem to be a immediate fix nor as of now I do
not see any solution.

Thanks

I had it for about a 5 days now and yes it did rebooted the Navi twice, but the controls on the steering wheels still works while it is rebooting which is only like 6secs. So the pros definitely defeats the cons.
