Upgrading the keys/fobs

Anyone tried upgrading a 03-06 TL to use 07-up keys/fobs? Not sure if it's only the lock cylinders that are different or if the remotes will even work. It would be nice to have switchblade keys, and I'm not sure if Acura went with different keyless entry receiver units between the 3G years or not...

I think somebody in the TSX forum did a write up on taking an older key and getting it work with the newer fob. It wasn't easy. But you might want to search in there for more info.

I have the switchblade keys and they are not all they're cracked up to be. They are very cheaply made and after a while the key doesn't stay folded in the fob anymore.

Geesh, the heeltoe keys are pricey. I was more thinking along the lines of swapping key cylinders so you could just use a stock switchblade key. Probably not any more cost-effective though.

I really need to get my hands on a service manual...

Wow lucky you. When I first bought the car 3 years ago the keys were fine. The car has 135,000 on it now though and I only use one key so that the other stays like new. Just disapointed at the poor quality of the keys. Volkswagen keys are much better made.

here's a friendly tip!
the 3G TL has been out since 2004!
everything you have dreamed about doing/modding your car has been thought of already!
Browse or search the forums by searching google.
"acurazine + few key words of what you're looking for"

Just a friendly tip!

Both of my key fobs were crap when I bought my car with 68,000 miles. Like yours, the key doesn't stay entirely in the casing and the buttons are showing wear. My Mazda fobs were much better as well.
