Updated Navagation Disks for 2006
I have an '04 TL. I want to get a new Navigation DVD since mine is 2 1/2 years old and many of the POI are outdated. Acura wants 185 bucks for a new one. I've been checking junkyards to see if there are any totalled 2006s, but they all say the DVDs get taken out before the "auction." Does anyone have an idea where to find one???? Ebay doesn't seem to have any of the v 3.5 2006 edition anywhere. I am sure many people are also wondering where they could find a cheap Nav DVD.

i don't think that anyone would want to sell an 06 dvd since this is the year 06 and that is the latest one. Members are trying to make copoes of the navi disks, and if that is done sucsessfully, we can buy one and make a lot of copies

Burning Probably Not Gonna Happen
I don't think our NAV DVD drive will read burned DVDs. From Acura's standpoint, that would make sense. For us, it really sux. But, these "auction" people who take them out of the totalled 2006s have to be doing SOMETHING with them. I wonder where they go.......

By the time you go through the effort of gutting and replacing the nav dvd drive, you have spent well over $185 in parts and labor!
On that note, I bought a spindle of 15 DVD-R DLs, and I am going to attempt to copy my nav disk based on the reccomendations of the other users in this forum. Wish me luck!

a program that makes an exact copy of all the info on the disc (i think dvd clone is one) should work, there is not reason for the drive to be able to tell the difference

This is the thread you want: Burn DVD Nav disc?
rbf351 says he has successfully created a backup of the nav DVD, yet no one has been able to duplicate it.

ajay711, if you want the latest nav dvd, just buy it from the dealer or order it through http://www.acuranavi.com.
I wonder if our vendors can help you out. Maybe you should try to contact Tim at hondacuraworld.

I am definately down for a group buy. How do we get that started? Is there someone on this forum who usually deals with Tim, or can any of us just call and see what he can do for a group deal? I will call Tim if I need to, unless there is a better way of handling things...

I wonder if there is a way to find out if they have updated the DVD for YOUR city.
I don't have NAVI, but I tried getting the 06 service loaner to take me to the Claim Jumper resturant which has been in Tucson for ~2 years now, and it wasn't in the database. It wanted to take me to the one in Denver, or soemthing.

You can. Just check out the acuranavi site and look for a link similar to "Find out what's new for your vehicle's navigation DVD update." Then you will be able to see if its worth it for you to upgrade.

No Dice on the Group Deal.... Tim says he can only get it for retail..... The software is prprietary to Alpine, so they hold the cards. I'm gonna see if I can find out what division of Alpine sells these things. Maybe they can cut us a deal.

Compared to the Navi discs I used to buy from Mercedes and Audi, the Acura discs are a freakin bargin. The Audi and Mercedes updates would cost $399+.
I would be nice to be able to make a copy and run off the burned copy. I personally don't mind paying the upgrade price, but I would probably do it every other year, and that's if they had any updates in my state (which is nice they show you).

If you read that same link above, you'll think twice about using your 15 DVD-R DLs. Good luck!
I think the person who started that thread was up to something sneaky and nefarious.

.:HALCÓN DE LA NOCHE:.
There was a member here that just purchased a 2006 TL & was given a voucher by the salesperson to get the updated NAVI dvd for free when it comes out in October. I can't find the link right now, but maybe we will here more news when it comes out.
I was reading an article from Acura that you can't swap an '06 navi-dvd w/ a '04. That it's not backward compatible. It has something to do with reading some time of info on the dvd. It's weird how that's possible because how do we update our dvd's then? I was thinking of burning the navi-dvd from a loaner car when I bring my car in for service, but I don't think it would work.

Does anybody know if the new update will fix the POI problem? I hate having to search through 8 different categories to find a restaurant (eating places, restaurant, fast food, etc.)

Interesting...
If you guys take the actual disk out of the drive, what do you see. If I remember correctly, my disk is orange with version 3.5 stamped on it. Something like this

Hunkyn - i think you should call your acura dealer and bring it up to them.the 3.5 belong in the 06. soo we should got it when we brought the car not a outdated disk..why you gonna get a navi in the car and you got to spend a extra 200 bucks for a updated disk when it was suppose to be given to us when we 1st got the car.that what i thought about it when i read this forum and find out my navi disk was outdated..but i know im suppose to got the 3.5.. .i even ask my sells lady..i ask her befor i took the car out the acura dealer lot..i told her this is a 06 TL.brand new with only 4 miles on it and it have all the up to dated stuff and the disk should be a 3.5 version..she say yes and yes ..i remember those words and i put it into action and got what belong in my car the 1st place..3.5 NAVI DISK...

....... make sure you read the disc carefully... if not mistaken... 200506 is the 3.50
you must be reading the words around the outside... take the disc out and look at it again.. you should see 3.50 somewhere between the center circle and the outter circle. (like half the radius)

I dont know whether the RL disks are different or not, but i just made a copy of mine and it works great. I did it on my Mac G4 and used Toast Titanium to burn. To get the files off the DVD, i just did a regular copy and paste into a folder and then before burning i named the DVD the same way that the original was.
