Updated NAV Disc
Might anyone have an Updated NAV disc that I might be able to download from them? I'm currently running 3.50 in an 06 Acura TL in Las Vegas and half the outlying suburbs aren't even mapped in the NAV so most of the time the NAV is almost useless to me. Can anyone please help?

Those upgrade disk sell for ~$185 which is a big rippoff imho. Last week I contacted Acura Customer Care and filed a compliant. I suggest everyone do the same. I doubt anything will come of it but I feel better.
Todays newspaper has a Garmin nuvi 205w available for $199. Our disk should sell for $50-$100. Eventually I will purchase one but they could have sold my 3 or 4 at the right price. Sorry for the highjack and the rant, just don't like being screwed for no reason.
If you share my feelings, make some noise to Acura.

I would never pay that much! I'd rather install a carputer for a little bit more and go that route because at least that way I won't loose an arm and a leg when I need to have coverage for basic areas! I mean I could care less about POI's and ATM's, I wan't to be able to find a friends house or a business without a problem when I put in an address. And half the time I do that it doesn't even recognize the street so now I have to listen to my dumbsh*t friend give his directions like "now your going to pass a big tree and a red house... oh you passed the train tracks? Ya you went too far then." I know everyones been down that road a few times. lol

I know its frustrating, BUT, I learned my portable also requires updates--making it cheaper to buy a newer better unit instead. That's just sad
For the car, every few years you may have to update the nav disc.
Consider it maitenance since nothing but oil changes happens till over 70k miles
When you register with acura they send a coupon for disc $150, and a discount on the last year version
Checking the list of releases on the alpine link will show what release you need for your cities latest revision. Not many places get added or updated each year, so a brand new one may not have anything for you over last years
Alpine makes the disc and sells it...has a lot to do with the price, and its not the greatest system but it does the job.
If you call and complain to customer care- ask for a discount coupon!
The only reason I see to complain would be a car from the dealer with an old disc, get a new release disc in the sale
The disc dont interchange either,,Alpine job security
BTW- Spark plugs are 7 bucks each,,the other initial TL owership surprise, and it runs only on Premium gas!

Do I have to request this coupon? I just recently registered my car on there since I bought my certified TL but I'm not seeing where I apply for the coupon. Please help as this will be a GREAT asset.

one showed up in the us mail all by itself, then every time I go to the acura.com site- an email offer for something, including the discount on dvd, arrives
ask customer care if they can get you a code/coupon 1-800-382-2238 x5
You need to register there anyway for any future recall notices to reach you
Go ask the dealer parts manager if they have a code or coupon they can hook you up with --its not much, brings it down to $150 but 35 bucks is a tank of gas

need a recent navigation disk
I live in Alabama and the newest version of the navigation disk doesn't have updates for any of my local areas. I am currently running the original orange disk in my 05 TL. I think last year's upgrade would be sufficient for my needs.
Does anyone have a more recent version (06-08)for sale?

each year has a specific version number example orange disc version 5.whatever- the whatever is the latest release number
then a car made a year later wont take that disc~ it needs 6.---

Here is some insight into why the price is so high:
1. Not many copies are sold a year, maybe 20K at the most.
2. Programmers need to be paid to update the maps on the manuf. specific GUI
3. Researchers need to be paid to update streets/database
4. All the bugs need to be worked out before production
5. Producing the disk
6. A new version of the disk is made 4x a year

its too bad they arent hooked into google maps to get info faster to make the disc
there are vans with cameras that drive around getting all the street and biz info, then finding the changes from last time,,,new subdivisions always popping up,,,no one calls them and reports changes

That $185 comes out to over $200 with tax and shipping. And in this economy, Alpine needs to realize that they could increase their revenues by dropping the price of the disk to under $100 WHERE IT BELONGS.
So, as I said in a previous post in a similar thread, if someone can figure out a way to successfully copy the 3.71 or 3.8 orange DVD, I'll make it worth their while.
Think of how many they'd sell if the price was under $100. They should run a 'test sale' and find out.

There's no extra issues with the 3.71 disc/3.8 disc which wouldn't already be on the other Orange discs right? So if I can get a copy of my current one I should be able to do a newer one right?
Reason I ask is because I'm almost certain I can do it, just don't want to spend $200 to find out I can't.

someone did find a way with some special computer equipment beyond my understanding
BUT thats against acurazine policy to violate federal copyright laws
and alpine probably adds more security on each release
you dont have to buy one every year, just check the list for version when they added or updated your area and get it
Tires are the same price for just one!!! whats the big deal?
What do other car makes charge for their nav disc??? that would be interesting to know
Onstar is not free either!
