Tweeter clipping.. definitely not blown
Tweeter clipping.. definitely not blown
Hi all,
I've finally gotten fed up with the crappy audio system in our TL's.
Driving on the highway with windows open I can barely hear my audio.
So, I purchased the following speakers and am installing them as I get them delivered.
Tweeters: Infinity 1031t
center: Polk Audio : ( forgot model...3.5 )
front and rears: Polk Audio 651s 6.5 )
fyi ( the infinity's come with a resister I believe which will give you the impression it wont fit in the OEM location....To my dismay, you can actually get the whole resister in the OEM housing.
ok...so back to my issue....Basically, when playing music etc... I hear no clipping.
As soon as I begin to use my HFL. ONLY the left tweeter makes a clipping noise.
Is the HFL interfering with the resister somehow?
I honestly thought I wired them backwards but, I checked it out this morning and they're not.
anyone else encountered this?

All signs point to bad speaker. Can you balance and fade to that channel and disconnect the mid and listen to that by itself?
Otherwise I suppose it could be a bad channel on the HFL, but if it didn't do it w/ the factory speaker I doubt that.

There is a chance it could be the "resistor." A lot of stand alone tweeters like that also have a tweeter protection circuit as well and if that is clicking on and off quickly it could seem like the speaker is "clipping". I'd try swapping the resistor and see if it switches sides.
Those "resistors" are to sometimes keep too much power from smoking your driver. They are also to regulate frequency. It is possible that you can are putting too much power to it or have a frequency out of the range that the component will use... or both.
Almost right, they are only for regulating load to the speaker. Unless there is a capacitor in series with the resistor then it does nothing for frequency response.

No doubt. It is almost certian not to be an actual resistor alone. It is in quotes to keep it easy. The thing regulates frequency from 2500 to 10K, according to the spec. It is possible that the higher wattage (heat) cuts off some frequency - these are not likely high quality components.
Switch them out like Sterling Archer suggested and see what happens.

since im using the factory amp. I highly doubt its over powering my tweets.
I searched on google and came upon so many threads linked to Acurazine with members experiencing same issues across different Acura Models.
Some say could be the HFL module, others say it could be the phone ?
Im wondering if this has anything to do with still using stock door speakers with aftermarket tweets.
I'm going to link my blackberry to my HFL just to eliminate my iphone from this mix.
