Just got the escort passport 8500 x50. So far its incredible. Highly recommended. We're (IBM global services code writers) working on a patch to make the nav flash red when the detector goes off. Want to get to the point where it will show icons like gas stations atm's, etc, but the first foot in the door will just be a flashing red screen I've been told. Will keep ya'll updated, and would like to know everyones results with diff detectors

Lol
That made me smile, yes it does show the icons for the atms, an gas stations etc. But we want it to show icons for the cops, a lil star etc, the God of our division Joel M. told me that was a ways down the road, but hooking the escort up to the navi itself, an getting the red flash screen was doable. I even brought this up in a team meeting, and the response was great. These ppl live to do what ppl say cant be done, so lets hope for the best

Bull!!
I am sorry, but this is a total bullshit . First, no one has been able to hack Navy beyond relpacing a startup image or running TSX software, both are trivial mods. What you are talking about is extremely advanced task, requiring not only a software rewrite, but electrical interfacing of a radar detector and Navy. Nevermind the fact, that radar detectors rarely show a general direction of a signal and are not capable of measuring distance.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with gt1. The hacking that bysin did was really very surface level... simply replacing some files and uploading them back into the navi system. To change the behaviour of the navi system at the level you're talking, you've really got to disassemble the code and then write new code in SH3 assembly language... a VERY daunting task as it seems the Navi code is quite obfuscated.

Not to mention that to get an accurate placement of the cop you'd have to triangulate on the signal. That would require many like outfitted cars to work in conjunction with each other to identify, locate and compare info.......
Not gonna happen in the civilian market from a couple of hackers no matter how good they are.

I would be incredibly-suprised if you could pinpoint the source of the radar on the map as the previous posters mentioned, but I can think of a simple way to flash the screen red:
Isn't the screen fed by an RGB signal? If so, interupting the green and blue signals with a relay or something similar would cause the screen to go red. No need to do anything to the software as this is purely a hardware mod.

Pinpointing cops on the nav ?!?!? Sounds like bullsh!t
But hey, after ya get that done, why not add an auto targeting system to nav screen to fire teh stinger missles we have behind the HID lights!

never stops!
You cannot pin point Cop location (which is moving BTW, not like POI you can have on mapping or topographical data base) unless you have a locator on cops which can be picked up by satelite.

Yeah, I gotta jump in with the crowd here and say this is complete crap. Correct me if Im wrong but isnt the Navi made by Alpine? And arent they contracted with Sun? Not IBM???

I did not get the impression that the radar detector can actually pinpoint the signal. The Navi simply flashes red when the detector detects a signal. The radar detector outputs a signal to the Navi and the Navi responds by flashing red. That does not seem like an impossible thing to do. At least if you know how to wire it and program it. Not me!

Triangulation would not be impossible. If you had very precise units you could mount them on the corners of the car. As far as mixing it with the existin nav programs and show it displayed on the map, again it would be possible, but it would be much easier to just right your own program. You would need more than just a radar detector to do this, you would need another computer, a good one at that, and multiple radar pickups. Have fun, it would cost less to pay off the cops.
