TL Car Audio

I was just wondering if anyone has installed an after-marked deck of some sort yet. I really want the ability to play mp3 CDs when I pick up a TL and I'm also worried that the stock head unit won't be able to support a new AMP and subs at high wattage.

I want to run at least 2 Phoenix Gold TE 12s at 1100 Total Watts 4 ohms

If the deck can't handle it I will be pissed.

Who has done an audio install for the 04 TL before? Any suggestions? Help?

I think you would be crazy to try to change out the head unit in this car. It is far too integrated with the navi system, HFL, etc, not to mention the fact that it has a very unusual shape inside the dash that would look like shit if removed. For MP3 compatibility, consider just buying a cheap discman type unit that runs MP3s (or better yet an iPod) and then just use an FM modulator to splice into the existing head unit. You could also run the head unit's high-level outputs into any after market amp if you want to boost the wattage.

Just add an MP3 disc changer I know JVC makes a mp3 10 disc changer that will hook up to the factory deck. Just Do a search for MP3 disc changers there are plenty of them out there.

thanks for all the help so far. i just need to know now if the factory deck can handle whatever i put in and who's had success with the sub/amp install because i'm wondering how much work needs to be done...and if the speakers need to be replaced...i've been reading around and it says that the speakers are too quiet...so i'm thinking i will need to try to increase output without blowing anything
