I think thats bullshit, I had an 05 tl with Llumar tint & it was 35%. My radio worked. It may have made the reception worse, but I didnt notice if it did.

My radio reception is really bad after the tint. So yes, tint can reduce your radio reception.

Tint with metal in it will also cause your GPS to not work so great as it will cause interference with that also.

that is bs. I had the same tint in my 2004 TL with Navi and now in my 07 Type S. No issues ever. They want you to pay for the more expensive tint. The bad thing is that the cost of the actual tint is the same. Metal tint will last longer and not fade as fast as nonmetal.

From what I've read on the boards, it's a hit and miss with metal tints affecting your satellite navigation.

If you want to be on the safe side, make sure your tint has no metal in it.

I'd vote for non-metallic tint - but mainly cause I don't like the reflective look of it.

I went with Llumar 30% ATR all around in my 05 TL Navi. The only problems I had is diminished AM radio reception. Everything else continues to work great and I am very satisfied with the tint.

window tint

i'm in the process of finding a reputable tint shop in my area and have already contacted over 10 shops in the tri-city area. Each shop owner tells me that if i have a navigation or a radio with the antenna on the rear window, using a metalic tint or any tint with metal will cause problems...

so... if 10 people tell you not to use it... your probably better off not

this is the same thing i've heard as well.
Basically at that point its based on personal preference. But i've read where certain people have said that metal tints have affected their navigation to the point where it showed their car being in another city.

Just get the ceramic and be done with it!

I was told the same by several tint shops that tint with metallic particles may reduce nav reception. I ended up going with the Solar Guard Supreme 6% in the rear and something like 14% in the front. Total cost is a bargain at $140. IF I had to do it again, it would be 14% in the rear and a little lighter in the front.

I did a ton of searches before tinting my windows and I just went with the 3M, which is metalic and have no problems with my XM, radio, or navi. I might say my navi is a little off by about 50ft., but nothing I'm worried about. It still gets me to all my destinations.

You should post some pics of your car now.

Just had my windows tinted with llumar ATR 30% sides and 15% rear. No problems with radio reception (xm-fm). I have noticed that the nav reception has diminished. before the tint i had good reception even in my garage and after the tint i've noticed the gps signal indicator dissapears as soon as i pull into the garage. as soon as i pull outside full signal returns. since i have no need for nav in my garage all is well.

After I was told that the metallic tint will cost problem, I had rescheduled the appointment to this Friday. I did some research, but it didn’t help that much because it all depends on where you live and what kind of signal strength you are getting. I am having hard time to choose now. I guess my only option is dark tints.

Anyone in Orlando area notice any problem with metallic tint?

What does dark tint have to do with it?

All tints come in all shades. You can get non-metallic/ceramic tint only on the back window and matching metallic tint on the sides if you want to save some money. But either is available in light, medium, or dark shades.

It is the back window that is problematic because the antennae are there. It doesn't matter on the sides.

I don't like, "It depends" as an answer, but I guess in this case, "It depends" is the right answer.

I got metallic tints about 2 weeks ago (not the kind with a gold or silver reflective outside surface, just plain charcoal). 35% all around. Absolutely no Radio or Navi issues. I get Navi in my garage and my car position is spot on all around town. AM, FM, XM reception exactly the same as before tints.

Go figure.
