Tint with Navi question...

hey guys. i read in the TL manual that tints in the rear windshield may reduce the accuracy of the navi system in the tl since the wires are in the window. Im thinking about tinting my windows, 20% all around. My question is do you think the 20% tints in the rear window will screw up the navi real bad? or at all?

it might hurt it a little but if its off a couple feet it shouldn't hurt. I think it will stay pretty accurate because the tints on the inside of the window not the out side. 20% pretty dark, its not dark like limo tint but just gives the man another reason to pull over a young person with a nice car, I suggest 35% and the man should stay of your back.

Depending on the type of tint you're planning to get. I believe the manual says to use a non-metallic film. Using a metallic film may degrade the GPS signals. This has been a highly debated topic. A lot of folks say there is none and there are those who have felt the effects of metallic film. There are only a few manufacturers who offer non-metallic film - Fomula One Pinnacle series, Huper Optik and 3M CS. The other option is to use a dyed film which has the tendency to turn purple after a couple of years. The choice is yours - metallic or non-metallic. Do a search on this topic and decide from that point.

It depends on the type of tint. If it is a metallic tint it will interfere with the navi. If it is a ceramic tint you shouldn't have problems. Please search in the future as this has been discussed dozens of times.

I agree it does depend on the manufacturer

Absolutely incorrect .... I have Formula One metallic tint at 20% and it does NOT interfere with my Navi.

I am certain that some films will mess with the Navi, and I also know that F-1 metallic will interfere with certain types of Navi (my installer said they were having problems with a Dodge Magnum so they moved to ceramic on the one window)

If you want to be safe go with ceramic, but their are many people on this board that have not had probs with metallic tint.

The non metalic looks dull & flat. I have had little or no trouble with the metalic film concerning the Navi but I did notice a reduction in the FM radio signal strength and sensitivity of the auto dim rearview mirror.

I had my tints done about a month ago, 15% all around, they used non metallic, I asked them what the difference was and they told me their exactly the same, I cant complain, my tints look great and they do shine despite not being metallic.
