"System" In The Works!
quit playing with him and make some blueprints of that enclosure design. I'll buy it from you for a reasonable price!
oh, and i'm no pro, but i think more excursion at lower frequencies would only benefit spl, not sq, but what the hell do i know?

It really is what we need in these cars. No rattles at insane volumes. I chased down rattles without success even with a lot of dynamat for the first year.
LOL One becomes good at something through trial and error. I just hope there are still trees left on the planet by the time I get it right.
You could have snuck a pic and posted it for us. Jason's being all incognito about his box - most likely because it's not done...

it is true it is not totally done..its not totally trimmed inside/out yet...
but it does exist and it is the TL miracle box

will same basic design work with just 1 JL instead of two. I'm pretty good with wood working so i can build something this easily. maybe a 10W7 or something. and still keep most of my trunk space.
Ward Benjamin of JL audio is a good guy and realy knows his stuff. I'm sure you know that as you built the box similar to the specs he sent you. What i dont understand is why you used a REQ-5 and not a Clean Sweap. Install looks good!!
There's no way I'm checking that on the plane, and I doubt it will fit in the overhead compartment. I think I'll just wait to see the finished product and attempt my own build once I see the general idea.
This is if I don't like what I hear from Msala's enclosure.
Question for you, Jason, does your design allow for a spare tire (and easy access to it)?

Toward the beginning, Jason said the W7 doesn't like to be bandpassed. Just repeating what I saw.
W6's can be bandpassed with out a problem.,..they don't really advertise because of design and construction complexity! Trust Me...2-12w6v2's in one of my enclosures is all the bass you'll ever need!!!
Periph,
Yep...Ward is one of the best over at JL tech...the Cleansweep is over kill in this application. the RTA(directly connected to the factory amp outputs) revealed a very very very slight change in the response curve...mostly subbass performance suffered...hence the req5 applies the subbass correction throughout the entire volume range!!!
-Jason
Curious as to how the MTX-REQ5 is wired, before or after the stock amp? Also why do you feel the Cleansweep would have been overkill. Not trying to second guess your picks but I'm thinking of purchasing a sound processor and I'm wondering what the differences are between the 2. Also how do you make adjustments with the MTX-REQ5 ? Manually from the device itself or is there a remote of some sort?
Inspiring build Jason. I to am considering an REQ-5 or similar line driver. You mentioned a noise floor issue, is that because you are taking the low voltage output before the amp?
Also, if I were considering a single sub bandpass box, should I contact JL to get specs and design recommendations? did you use a box building program to get your final design, or was it just an adaptation of the original JL specified box from your earlier post?
I can't wait to see the final pictures!

shit guys...i'm workin on it...when you do this kinda stuff for a living...at the end of the day...you don't wanna work on your own shit...ya know?

it'll get there eventually

line and those ugly red Road thunder subs ugh. I am so ready to dust off the router and get to work. Update, while i was typing this i bought the damn RE-Q5 unit, so now im hoping i get a clean review on it from yah.
Concerning the MTX-Req5...
The unit itself works awesome. It does maintin the lower frequency response curve that the acura radio does control...which is the primary reason that i bought it...this way i don't have to have a seperate master volume control for the entire system...ie cleansweep...just a special note though...once it's installed DO NOT touch any audio adjustments on the OEM radio interface!!!in my experience it will throw the settings off at the processor! if you would like subwoofer control...i highly recommend the JL Audio CL-RLC Remote Level control/Linedriver! or the accelle electornics anlc1p level control. I have yet to try installing this unit pre OEM amplifier to help alleviate some of the "hiss" the OEM amplifier generates. Second note...when you're running cable I would make sure you run a set of 12+ Constant/Ground wire to the back and pull power for the REQ-5 from your power and ground distro...this will help eliminate some engine whine that is caused by the voltage differential.
hope this helps

Quick question on this MTX-Req5... so it compensates for the bass clipping our stock HU's do when you increase the volume.. I get that part. But does it do that for the internal speakers too and if it does, can you set it so that it doesn't do anything for the internals?
Reason I ask this is because I'm ONLY throwing in a sub right now, but evnetually down the line I will replace all my stock speakers but till I do, I do not want to damage them.
In a nutshell all this thing does is save you a trip to the audio screen where you have to turn up the subwoofer when you turn up the volume..am I right?

it does bass compensation for all speakers that are attached to the REQ-5's outputs...it also give you the ability to adjust accordingly...with -3, and -6db of bass compensation on the front and rear channels of full range audio...

Hey Jason,
I couldn't tell based on looking at the specs for the REQ5 if it is compatible with a low level input. You mentioned you may try this setup, can you let me know how it works?
Thanks!

Yo Jason ..can you help me understand this part of your post "Second note...when you're running cable I would make sure you run a set of 12+ Constant/Ground wire to the back and pull power for the REQ-5 from your power and ground distro...this will help eliminate some engine whine that is caused by the voltage differential." in a bit more detail ?
I am still 2 months away from my install ...but on the positive note ... I am one month closer than where I was a month ago !

gotta make time to get this flippin car done...
been way too lazy and too tired to get jack done...on a positive note...i'm getting a chance to demo the new Audison BitOne in my car real soon...hopefully all goes well with that!!
