My problem is the subwoofer enclosure design; right now i have the IDMax in a 2.6 ft3 ported enclosure tuned to 45hz. the box is built like the front end of your bandpass enclosure. (hope you dont mind) My problem is that when the trunk is open, the bass sounds good and loud in the cabin, but when the trunk is closed it almost disappears to nothing. Has this ever happen to you? I was hoping to build an enclosure similar to yours, but the techs at Image said that it would'nt work for the IDMax; something about the Xmax being to big. Any ideas on a design would be greatly appreciated.
I went through this for 2 years and moved my subs to every imaginable location facing every imaginable way. I was never happy with it, not to mention the rattles. The miracle box solved every problem.

The problem is cancellation, and the only way I know of to get rid of it is to have all of the bass in front of the rear seat.

I spoke with the techs at ID also about this sort of box and they said the IDQ is a go but not the ID Max. They also said a box with this kind of efficiency and frequency response was impossible.

CSWBiggs, I have some question) Is it works with factory head unit? How you connect amplifers to the player?

Eiswritsat, my english is bad) now i read topic and find something about RE-Q5, thx... CSWBiggs, Did you setup some speakers to the rear doors?
MTX have 5 channel, so you use 4 channel for 2 tweaters and 2 mid and 1 channel for sub... But you have two speakers so 2 channel... How did you split it before MTX and then separate on 2 for 2 HD 750/1 amplifers?

I have no processor...
no clean sweep...
no alpine imprint...
no mtx...

nada...zip zero zilch...not even an LOC...

my RCA's are hard wired from the pre-amp outputs of the OEM headunit... cut and soldered...

600/4 Runs front and rears...off of their respective pre-amp signal...
750/1 gets it's signal off of the respective pre-amp signal...and than daisy chains to the other 750/1..

Hope that answers your question..

Can you specify some moment?.. Where from gets signal tweeters? Can i use scheme like that:
OEM headunit -> OEM Amp -> some cleensweep/mtx -> aftermarket AMP -> speakers

well i've decided on doing a similar box in my 07 tl-s, but i'll be using 10w6v2's instead of the 12's. I called JL today and got the lowdown on a 4th order box for 2 10's that actually has a wider playable frequency than the dual 12's do (33-98hz vs. 35-95hz per JL's tech whom i spoke with). i'll be able to run a single hd750/1 for both subs and gain a little bit of precious trunk space back. i'll let you guys know when i get cracking on it after i draw some plans up in CAD and model it on my speaker software. wish me luck.

I think if you poke around, you can do much better than JL, amps especially, there subs are good, but just as good can be had for less.

ive got better amps, older orion xtr 200's to exact (the red marbled ones), but they're too big. the new HD series amps are the right amount of quality, clarity and size that i'm looking for. and as far as the subs go, i've been using jl subs in my blazer for years, and i love them. just a preference is all. why, what would you recommend?

My fabrication skill level is 0! I dunno what I'm doing when using power tools, I'll probably cut my hand or something!

Jason if i lived closer I'd definately help you finish thing. Then i might learn
some car audio knowledge. Then i'll know what the heck your talking about when you mention, bandpass, excursion, 4th order slope, 12db octive 80hz or
whatever

Right between you and me. I want someone else to hear it just so everyone knows I'm not crazy for bragging about it everytime it's brought up.

Dear CSW I have similar components to you, but now I am redoing my system. Your build has given me direction and inspiration. i too have the spx 17pros and jl amplification. Those Pillar mounts look awesome. The radiator tweeter will def give better imaging on axis. swithcing to the HD amps prob the 900/5. getting rid of my 8w7 HO and gonna build a single 12w6v2 bandpass box. I called jl for the specs for a single sub. my slash amps and HO box take up so much trunk space. Well i just wanted to say thank you for posting ur build and sharing your useful ideas. acurazine is a great site. I've been lurking around azine for years. for me, this has been the most useful thread. Are you on DIYMA?

P.S. i see ur super busy, but i would hapilly pay you for you to fab me up a set of those pillar mounts.

Suuuuure lol. I think I asked if I could buy one of these boxes as a Christmas gift to myself last Christmas....

Actually, the front sound stage version I heard sounded really good, I thought that was the final product at the time.

I got a new one today. Last week a co-worker was talking crap about JL subs so I let him hear the ghetto poor man's miracle box. Apparently he told people so a couple guys came to hear it after work today.

What was funny is they're looking at the subs basically not moving yet my hair was moving and asked to see the trunk because the sound could not be coming from those subs. The lack of excursion is unreal, it still surprises me at times.

Well the damn thing better sound good! It's as big as a fucken coffin. Not only could you put two 12's in there but a dead body too! Or am I wrong. I wish you would finish this "system in the works" so we could see the final install. How much room will be left in the trunk?

Are you running into any time alignment issues with the tweeters being so far away from the mids and is so what processor are you going to use to correct it. I had a similar set up in my mazdaspeed but i had a premier 880 to fix that issue, just curious.

i currently am not running any sort of time correction the vehcile at the moment....and believe or not there is very very very little seperation between the midbass and tweeter...i mean very little...i took a few hrs moving the tweeters up and down the a pillars to reduce the seperation and still make it some what aesthetically pleasing...there is still a left to right bias being that the sides of the car are not equidistant from either passenger or driver seating positions...

i primarily focus achieving the best results acoustically for a center listening position...ie on top of the arm-rest ..before i introduce any active electronic filters and or time correction filters...this way that when i tune for driver or passenger side bias...i'm able to have all axis mirrored on both sides of the car...making tuning much easier and more efficient..
