Question Swapped radio and now bluetooth HFL doesn't work correctly

OK, '04 TL radio was loaded with 6 CDs. For some reason, the CD player stopped working. So I went on eBay and purchased an new TL radio with code and installed it this past weekend, put in the new code and thought everything was fine until I tried to use the bluetooth HFL. Whenever I place or recieve a call using the bluetooth HFL, the other party can hear me, but I can not hear them. I tried clearing the bluetooth conneciton from my phone and re-pairing, but I still get the same results. Any ideas? On a side note . . . I cracked the center air vent assy. in the dash while I was doing the radio swap. Does anyone know a place I can order dealer only parts at a discount? Thanks.

maybe wiring might be bad. see if your voice command works. (try play cd and stuff thinggy to find out whether your microphone on TL is working properly)

do you have a TL with nav or without nav? I remember reading here that when a member did a Non-navi to navi conversion, his HFL didn't work with his factory radio and he had to buy a new one for it to work.

Voice commands are working properly as I can see the menu changes on the dash readout. Also, durning a call the other party can hear me, but I can't hear them. This also goes for the TL speaking to me. If I enter the HFL menu, the radio continues to play, but the HFL mic is picking up my voice and chaning the menus. My TL doesn't have NAV and all I did was swap the radio with a new radio that was the same. All the connections were very easy to reconnect. So, I don't think there would have been a wiring problem. Any other suggestions? Also, any online discount dealer part sites? Thanks.

If you don't have everything back together, put the old one back in to see if it works. If it does, then you've probably got a bad unit from Ebay.

If this is the case, it is very easy to swap the cd-changer from the rest of the radio. I just did it myself and is just a matter of removing some screws and pulling one ribbon cable.

Good Luck

KN_TL - I've already put everything back together, but it seems I'll be ripping it all apart again. :-( I was thinking the same thing about just swapping the CD-Changer last night and started taking the old one apart. I poped off the top and was able to see the CDs racked up in the unit. I took several screws out of the housing, and was able to lift the back of the CD-Changer unit, but it seems to be held some how to the front of the radio. I didn't want to force it and break something so I left it alone. What additional steps do I need to take to get the CD-Changer out of the unit? Thanks.

Thanks, but as I stated, everything works on the new radio except the bluetooth HFL. So if I have to, I'll just swap out the CD Changer from the new radio I have. Also, you may like to know, they are going on eBay for under $200 for the whole radio brand new with the code.

There are 4 small phillips head screws, two top and two bottom. The two at the top are under the felt strip. Then you just need to pop it off carefully prying at the holding points.

Once you do that, all you need to do is remove the 4 screws front and 2 on each side. There will be a ribbon cable that connects the changer to the radio that is a simple pressure fit. Just wiggle it out. It goes back in easily.

Good Luck!

Just a thought - is the 'new' radio from an 04 TL? Sometimes there are small changes in the electronic specs from year to year. If its a unit from a different year, its possible the something is slightly different . . . wiring, programming, etc...

Good point! I hadn't really thought about that, but could be the issue. I guessing I'll have to rip everything apart again this weekend.

Here's just a few Item#s for completed auctions I found on eBay for the 3rd generation TL radios. All are under $200. I'm not sure how you're searching, but you must not be looking at completed auctions. Good luck with yours.
eBay Item# 290204694500 = $150
eBay Item# 290202119565 = $127
eBay Item# 350017481351 = $195
